Job Summary
SUMMARY
The Staff Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) who practices within the scope of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act to ensure the delivery of comprehensive high quality individualized nursing care based upon knowledge and experience the nursing process and leadership skills. The RN incorporates the carative factors of human care and performs established procedures in accordance with the organizations and the nursing division policies procedures in accordance with the organizations and the nursing division policies procedures and standards of care. The RN coordinates family involvement in the assessment/treatment and continuing care of the patient and delegates tasks to competent and appropriate caregivers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assesses each patients biophysical psychosocial environment spiritual cultural self-care educational and discharge planning based on age and development status.
- Utilizes the caring behaviors of empathy active listening and cultural sensitivity and supports patient dignity.
- Develops and prioritizes an outcome directed plan of care to assigned patients and changes as necessary.
- Performs clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies procedures standards of practice and within scope of the State Nurse Practice.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing interventions. Modified the plan of care focusing on age and development status and patient outcomes.
- Reviews the plan of care and consults with the physician and other health care providers to adjust the plan to assure optimum patient outcomes within the scheduled timeframe.
- Documents care per documentation standards.
- Provides patient/family education.
- Serves as a mentor/preceptor colleagues and other staff within or outside of areas of responsibility.
- Utilizes patient assessment findings and clinical judgments to safely perform international radiology procedures with the Radiology Team and radiologist.
- Provides pre intra and post IR procedural care and monitoring of the patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competency in the use of medication including emergency drugs moderate sedation reversal agents and common adverse reactions to contrast media.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competency to perform IR procedures to include: abscess drain tube placement aspiration of any fluid collection breast biopsy chest tube placement fine needle aspiration of thyroid nodule kidney biopsy liver biopsy lumbar puncture ling/chest biopsy lymph node biopsy paracentesis thoracentesis and other international radiology procedure.
- Prepares room and positions patient for various procedures.
- Follows radiation safety protocols.
- All Level 2 nurses must meet and maintain annually all of the Level 2 Performance Standards and expectations as outlined in the Level 2 section of the RN Levels of Practice Programs. Adheres to downtime procedures.
- Adheres to established departmental policies procedures and objectives.
- Performs both essential and non-essential job functions in a safe manner as identified by Community First.
- Demonstrates an understanding of and models the mission and core values of Community First through behavior and attitude.
- Enhances professional growth and development by accessing educational programs job related literature in-service meetings and workshops/seminars.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Monitor and delegate tasks to allied health care professionals.
- Education and/or Experience
- BSN preferred
- 0-1 years of experience required
- Ability to follow instructions and record information accurately
- Able to communicate effectively using written and verbal English
- Good interpersonal skills
- Computer Skills
- EMR/CERNER experience preferred
- Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) experience preferred
- Basic computer and typing skills required
Certificates Licenses Registrations
- Registered Nurse with current Illinois License
- ACLS per unit specific hospital requirements
- BLS/CPR certification required
