Your Role

Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS) is one of Victorias largest Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.

We are seeking a dedicated and culturally aware Womens Family Violence Practitionerin our Swan Hill location.

This role provides case management support to vulnerable Aboriginal women and their children who are experiencing family violence. This includes undertaking assessments of risk using the Safe and Together Model as well as the MARAM framework

In this role you will be responsible for developing safety plans with the family including action plans the implementation and review of these plans with the plan goals guided by the clients readiness for change.

A key focus of this role is to also work in partnership with other services to provide a holistic approach particularly specialist services relating to family violence inclusive of Victoria Police The Orange Door and the family violence team at MDAS Mildura.

This is a permanent full time position based at our Swan Hill office location.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Sound knowledge of family violence legislation and knowledge of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 and the Common Risk.

  • Well developed organisational and administrative skills including ability to manage conflicting priorities and high caseloads without affecting quality of service delivery.

  • Experience in working within Aboriginal Communities along with the ability to lead motivate mentor train and to adapt to changing environments and requirements including an ability to lead others through the process of change.

  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills and relationship management skills including mediation conflict resolution skills negotiation skills and including ability to represent MDAS in a range of external forums with a diverse range of stakeholders

  • Ability to take action to provide services that are inclusive of Aboriginal people and engage in learning about other cultures to better establish relationships and improve services

Qualification/s:
Diploma of Community Services or working towards.

Other Screening Requirements:
Valid Drivers License that allows you to drive in Australia.
Victorian Employee Working with Children Check card.
National Police Check.
