Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Chief technologist the incumbent is responsible for the management and technical supervision of staff working in the relevant Serology subsection.

Experience

  • Five years of experience in Public Health Laboratory essential.
  • Five years of experience in Serology laboratory essential.
  • Labware Laboratory Information System (LIS) experience essential.
  • Experience in total quality assurance procedures and practices includes quality control essential.
  • Experience in writing technical procedures essential.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Training and teaching experience related directly to the required performance of the position essential.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program essential.
  • Successful completion of the CSMLS Prior Learning Assessment process for a discipline specialty as deemed by the employer may also be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Current licensure with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM) essential.
  • Current registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS) preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of laboratory technique and theory essential.
  • Knowledge and understanding of privacy legislation such as The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) essential.
  • Knowledge of medical and technical terms essential.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices in the laboratory setting essential.
  • Knowledge of total quality assurance procedures and practices includes quality control essential.
  • Knowledge of medical and technical terms essential.
  • Knowledge of technical and theoretical aspects of relevant discipline essential.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English both written and oral.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions essential.
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment essential.
  • Ability to assist in the integration of new technologies/procedures in different Serology subsections.
  • Ability to identify solve and refer technical problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills essential.
  • Strong computer skills and proficient with Labware LIMS Microsoft Office e.g. Word and data analysis using Excel essential.
  • Ability to work independently and follow detailed instruction essential.

Physical Requirements

  • Working shifts weekends and holidays may be required.
