Job Summary:
Mesa Youth Creative Agency is a work-based learning enterprise within Mesa Public Schools that offers an unmatched opportunity for teens to work at MYCAs Graphic Design Studio that offers a range of client design services including brand and visual identity design graphic murals and interiors wayfinding and signage apparel publication and this context it offers an amazing opportunity to grow develop and collaborate in one of the most creative spaces and high impact organizations in the Phoenix Metro area.
Mesa Youth Creative Agency (MYCA) in partnership with Mesa Public Schools provides Mesa teens the opportunity for career experience through paid employment in art and design. MYCA enriches the local communities by introducing young peoples creativity to the business community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Studio Manager to guide you along in skill development the creative process and client work
- Work in collaboration with your studio professional team to ensure project opportunities and client work are meeting client expectations and needs
- Adheres to established federal and state laws board policies and regulations and district procedures; supports the mission statement of Mesa Youth Creative Agency
- Prioritize workflow with a strong sense of deadline and time managementand be willing to adapt in lieu of new information and feedback
- Continually engage the latest trends materials and work methods to deliver high quality digital and print design work that meets the demands of the market
- Adheres to the Statement of Awareness/Understanding adopted by the MUSD Governing Board and complies with the Meet and Confer Agreement
- Apply an understanding of design aesthetics and conceptual thinking to a diverse range of internal and external studio print and digital projects including but not limited to brand design environmental design product design and publication/layout projects
- Develop and design print/digital collateral to support MYCAs brand and promotional initiatives in collaboration with other internal departments including marketing and fundraising
- Maintains a professional appearance and demonstrates behavior that is conscientious and responsible
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the studio mentor
- Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
Required Qualifications:
- A high school attendee or at least 14 years of age. All teens must be enrolled in and regularly attending a Mesa Public School and a resident of Mesa (this includes our MDLP program)
- Able to complete an unpaid apprenticeship period of 36 hours which doubles as service-learning hours before becoming a paid employee
Skills & Competencies:
- Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate
- Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name served by strength and need and graduates ready for college career and community
- Accepts supervision and direction of the studio mentor and site administrator
- Appropriately communicates and interacts with other teens and professional sta in planning and project work
- Attends and participates in sta meetings and special events when requested
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional growth
- Able to attend every week during the programs regular hours (Monday Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00pm 6:00pm and Wednesdays from 2:00pm 6pm during the school year; Monday Friday from 12:00 noon 5:30pm during the summer)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Often set in a school-based media lab computer lab or shared creative space equipped with computers design software (like Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva) drawing tablets and printers.
- Teamwork is a big focusteen designers often work with peers mentors and teachers to develop campaigns social media content posters videos and other design projects.
- Work is often project-based with deadlines aligned with school schedules or community events.
- The role is primarily sedentary involving: sitting at a computer typing clicking and using design tools
- Requires strong visual attention and focus for extended screen time
- Occasionally lifting lightweight items (like art supplies or printed posters) up to 20lbs.
