Position Summary
The Masonry Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in masonry and construction trades aligned with the North Carolina Career & Technical Education (CTE) Essential Standards. The teacher prepares students with foundational knowledge and hands-on skills in masonry including bricklaying block work safety practices and construction techniques. The position emphasizes real-world application workforce readiness and opportunities for industry credential attainment.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid or eligible for a North Carolina teaching license in Masonry or related CTE area (Construction Trades Trade & Industrial Education)
Demonstrated experience in masonry construction or a related field
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and construction site practices
Ability to manage a hands-on lab/classroom environment
Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred: Industry certifications (e.g. NCCER)
Preferred: Prior teaching or training experience
Duties and responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging standards-based instruction in masonry and construction trades
Provide hands-on training in bricklaying block laying mortar mixing blueprint reading and tool use
Teach and enforce safety procedures in accordance with OSHA and district guidelines
Develop lesson plans aligned with NC CTE Essential Standards and local curriculum
Assess student performance using a variety of methods including practical skill demonstrations
Maintain an organized safe and well-equipped masonry lab/workshop
Integrate employability skills such as teamwork problem-solving and work ethic
Support students in earning industry-recognized credentials (e.g. NCCER)
Collaborate with local businesses community colleges and workforce partners
Participate in IEP/504 meetings as needed and support diverse learners
Maintain accurate student records grades and CTE reporting requirements
Participate in professional development to improve knowledge skills and build professional capacity
Assist with student organizations such as SkillsUSA if applicable
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or CTE director

Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds
Ability to demonstrate and supervise use of construction tools and equipment
Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments including exposure to dust and varying temperatures
