Job Summary
Engineer I - Substation is responsible for assisting in the design analysis and implementation of electrical substations. Works closely with senior engineers and project managers to ensure the successful execution of substation projects.
What you will do
Assists in the design and layout of electrical substations including equipment selection sizing and configuration. Ensures adherence to company or client standards guidelines specifications practices and procedures in preparing design drawings.
Ensures compliance with industry standards codes and regulations in all substation designs and projects.
Prepares engineering drawings specifications and technical reports for substation projects. Assist in the preparation and review of construction documents including bills of materials and construction specifications.
Assists in the preparation of detailed engineering calculations including grounding Alternating Current (AC) loading Direct Current DC (Direct Current) loading bus sizing cable sizing etc. following standard methods and principles to ensure the integrity and reliability of substation designs.
Assists in the evaluation and selection of substation equipment and materials.
Prepares and issues requests for material or services to potential suppliers ensuring clear and comprehensive specifications and requirements.
Conducts site visits and inspections to assess existing substation conditions and identify potential issues.
Coordinates with external consultants vendors and contractors to ensure the successful execution of substation design projects.
Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams including engineers technicians and project managers to ensure project objectives are met. Support project managers in project planning scheduling and cost estimation.
Assists in the preparation of technical reports proposals and cost estimates for substation projects outlining the scope timeline and resources required.
Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energys Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
Education Requirements
Bachelors Degree Engineering program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission Required
Preferred Experience
Previous technical and/or professional experience
An internship or co-op in engineering
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated effective interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g. e-mail word processing spreadsheet and project management).
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Pay Range:
$70000-$85000This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position experience skill set internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
