Job Summary

Position Title Student Employment Specialist

Department Human Resources

Reports to Human Resource Administrator & Benefits Administrator

Appointment Full-Time; 40 hours per week/12 months

Status Non-Exempt

Summary:

This role performs professional level human resources work focusing on providing student employment recruitment and staffing support for student employment managers using a working knowledge of all applicable policies procedures and best practices. Maintains a thorough understanding of student employment jobs and associated requirements across the various departments that utilize student employees. Additionally this role carries out administrative work in support of overall human resources operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Selection:

  • Provides frontline support for recruitment of student employees including non-international and international students.
  • Communicates with hiring managers to identify needs and provides expertise on applicable recruiting strategies and executes recruitment plans.
  • Communicates recruitment policies and processes to the area delivering training as necessary.
  • Facilitates recruiting business processes in the applicable system by reviewing and approving hiring manager-initiated processes or initiating processes on behalf of the hiring manager.
  • Ensures process compliance with applicable rules regulations and policies.
  • Creates and manages job requisitions in the HRIS system.
  • Manages candidate pools reviewing candidates to evaluate qualifications against position requirements ensuring a quality candidate experience and facilitating the hiring process.
  • Discusses pay rate options with student managers as needed.
  • Dispositions and communicates with non-selected candidates.
  • Follow up with the hiring manager (if position closes) regarding review and satisfaction with the candidate pool and provide counsel on next steps.
  • Escalates complex recruitment issues to appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all applicable HR policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Administrative:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the department triaging incoming information/issues/visitors to appropriate members of the department.
  • Assists in ensuring that international student credentials are complete for placement in student employment positions.
  • Work with International Advisor member of Student Affairs Division to assist in ensuring international students are cleared to work in the United States. Prepares employment letters for the Department of Social Security as needed.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs and tasks.
  • Support employees with efficient problem-solving when any human resources issues arise.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Human Resources Business Administration or related field required (Bachelors degree preferred).
  • Previous HR experience preferred including recruiting experience with a wide variety of positions and experience developing strong applicant pools.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other business and/or functional areas.
  • Comprehensive understanding of local state and federal employment laws.
  • Experience working with applicant tracking systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

Must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed in a normal office environment with little exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust. Working conditions are typically moderately quiet.
