Job Summary
The Montana Department of Transportation is seeking a Geospatial Information Supervisor to lead the Geospatial Information Section within the Data & Analytics Bureau. This position provides strategic and operational leadership for MDTs enterprise geospatial data systems applications and services used across planning engineering maintenance safety asset management and other department programs. The supervisor establishes section priorities data standards quality expectations and service direction while ensuring geospatial products support reliable decision-making across the department.
This position supervises professional and technical GIS staff and oversees roadway inventory mapping web GIS services spatial analysis federal reporting support fuel tax and secondary allocation data and enterprise GIS modernization efforts. The role requires strong leadership sound judgment clear communication and the ability to coordinate complex geospatial work across internal programs IT partners local governments and external stakeholders.

Knowledge of enterprise GIS architecture cloud-based geospatial platforms and spatial asset data strategy to guide long-term investment and modernization decisions. Skill in providing strategic and operational direction for enterprise GIS programs spatial asset management systems and services across a large organization. Skill in establishing and enforcing geospatial data standards spatial asset governance policies and quality assurance expectations across a section and its stakeholders. Ability to lead develop and hold accountable a team of professional and technical GIS staff through clear expectations performance management and ongoing development. Ability to build effective partnerships with planning engineering IT and external stakeholders to advance the integration of enterprise geospatial assets into department decisions and products.
