Key Responsibilities
As the Accounting Assistant you will play a key role in supporting the organizations accounting payroll accounts payable and job costing functions ensuring accurate and timely financial and employee-related processing.
Payroll & Employee Administration
- Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll inputs ensuring all timecards wages and adjustments are accurately compiled and verified.
- Review payroll outputs prior to EFT distribution to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain detailed employee records.
- Prepare ROEs T4s T5s and employment verification letters in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Support benefits administration and ensure employee data is current and properly documented.
Accounts Payable & Job Costing
- Process accounts payable invoices related to both job-costed projects and general operational expenses.
- Ensure all job-related invoices are reviewed and approved by project managers prior to payment processing.
- Assist with allocation of expenses to appropriate job costing categories for accurate project tracking.
Reporting Compliance & Record Management
- Maintain accurate payroll benefits and employee records in alignment with company policy and legislative requirements.
- Ensure compliance with privacy legislation and internal financial controls.
- Support the preparation and submission of year-end reporting requirements including government remittances and summaries.
Project Support
- Assist project managers with financial documentation and job costing requirements.
- Contribute to smooth interdepartmental communication to ensure timely and accurate financial processing.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role candidates should demonstrate:
Education & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Accounting Finance or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- 3-5 years of experience in accounting and/or payroll administration.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel applications.
- Experience with Sage 300 is required.
- Solid understanding of payroll legislation.

- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Ability to manage time-sensitive payroll deadlines and a high-volume of invoices in a fast-paced environment.
