Position Summary
The position of a Summer Resident Assistant is a part-time student employment opportunity at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the Housing and Residence Life office occurring between the end of the spring semester through fall semester opening. A Summer Resident Assistant (RA) is a student staff member who lives in the summer residence hall. Summer RAs are responsible for helping to provide a safe caring and educational environment for students living in the summer residence hall at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Specific duties
Check-in/check-out
Assist with opening the hall at the date and time outlined by the Summer RHD
Perform all administrative duties associated with check-ins and check-outs of the summer residence hall
Student Contact
Get to know the students in the summer residence hall
Be visible and available in the summer residence hall
Desk
Sort and forward all mail following procedures established by the U.S. Postal Service and Housing and Residence Life
Perform all desk tasks assigned by the summer RHD
Administration
Complete room condition reports and inventories for student rooms
Report problems initiate and follow maintenance request through to completion
Perform room inspections and follow check-in/check-out procedures as assigned
Maintain inventory of common area furnishings (basement rooms Lobby etc.)
Maintain open and frequent communication with the RHD
Attend all weekly meetings scheduled by the RHD (one-on-ones staff meetings etc.)
Duty
Begin duty at 8:00PM and end at 10:00AM daily (rotate with the other Summer RAs)
Complete duty rounds of the building at times specified by the Summer RHD
Report maintenance concerns to the Summer RHD and/or Housing and Residence Life
Dealing with inappropriate behavior
Confront individuals or groups violating state university or residence hall rules regulations or policies and report individuals according to procedures established by the university Housing and Residence Life and the RHD
Enforce all rules regulations and policies with consistency and fairness
Be able to provide residents with rationale for state university and residence hall rules regulations and procedures including disciplinary procedures
Additional responsibilities
Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the RHD to help meet the needs of your hall. These responsibilities constitute part of your employment agreement
Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Cleary Act to include completion of required training and reporting of all crimes to the university.
As an employee of the university report witnessed or otherwise reported incidents of sexual assault to the Office of the Dean of Students (36.11(22)c)))
Serve as a responsible employee as defined by Title IX and UWSP Policy 14.2 to report thorough and complete information about sexual harassment sexual assault dating violence domestic violence stalking and other gender-based discrimination.
Conditions of employment
Maintain a grade point average of 2.5 and receive approval from the summer RHD to carry more than 9 credits during summer term.
Give the position priority over all other areas of activity except for academics.
Limit other employment while working as a Summer RA. Some exceptions may be made for internships and/or pre-existing employment. Such exceptions are limited to 20 hours per week and are subject to summer RHD approval. Desk hours and duty nights will take priority over other employment.
Be in good condition standing with the university at the time the contract begins and have no further conduct incidents after the contract is signed. Prior university conduct records do not disqualify applicants but will be reviewed prior to employment. Employment will require a criminal background check.
Model positive behaviors appropriate to the university community and behave in a manner consistent with all the rules and regulations expected of all students and employees of UW-Stevens Point
Live in the residence hall assigned whenever the university is in session
If you are terminated for any reason the entire remuneration package will be prorated
If a staff member does not fulfill the duties of their position this may result in termination of their contract. Written or verbal assessments will be used in evaluating job performance.
A residence hall staff member who is alleged to be in violation of university policies will be referred to the Dean of Students Office. If staff member is found responsible for violating university policies employment status will be subject to review by the Summer RHD and Residential Living central staff members.
Benefits and other information
Free single bedroom in the summer residence
$10.50 an hour for desk hours worked
About twenty (20) hours per week is the norm. Forty (40) hours per week is not guaranteed but an opportunity may present itself with desk hour availability.
Contract Period
The dates of employment for Summer Resident Assistants are Wednesday May 13th through August 31st 2026. This is subject to change and will be communicated if it does.
Time off
Each SRA may be allowed up to eight (8) days off during the summer though not necessarily consecutively (in addition to regularly scheduled days off). Time off must be requested in writing and approved by the supervisor at least two weeks in advance. Requests for time off may or may not be approved depending on the duty schedule. No time off should be expected during the month of August. Specific days off needed in August must be disclosed prior to signing your employment contract.
