Job Summary

The Buyer is responsible for the procurement of components parts supplies equipment and services as required by production and part sales. The Buyer coordinates his or her efforts with warehouse and internal parts making in order to maintain the appropriate level of inventory. This individual utilizes product knowledge to purchase goods and services at the most favorable combination of price delivery and quality while simultaneously building and maintaining relationships with key suppliers. Other tasks include resolving issues pertaining to material defects invoice discrepancies and delivery timelines.


Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Meet the demand for procurement by issuing POs for goods materials and services for inventory production and part sales in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  2. Prepare and administer requests for quotes requests for proposal requests for information travelers and work closely with suppliers both internal & external.
  3. Identify and approve new suppliers and maintain the approved supplier database.
  4. Manage inbound freight of purchases.
  5. Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers.
  6. Contact suppliers regarding errors in partial or duplicate shipments prices and substitutions.
  7. Communicate with the warehouse to ensure rapid delivery and reception of goods and/or services.
  8. Receive and handle confirmations from vendors; verify that the information on the confirmation is for agreed-upon prices products shipment date and shipping method.
  9. Negotiate return of items to vendors and coordinate subsequent credits or replacements.
  10. Identify discrepancies between shipments and orders and take action. Communicate all delays or variances of inbound freight to the appropriate parties.
  11. Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies using diplomacy and tact with vendors and service providers. Coordinate with AP.
  12. Advise of lead times required to obtain products or services and expedite where required.
  13. Make recommendations and suggest options regarding material shortages.
  14. Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization.
  15. Identify and approve new suppliers and maintain the approved supplier database.
  16. Adhere to and enforce compliance with purchasing policies procedures regulations and laws.
  17. Remain up to date on pricing trends changes and restrictions that could affect purchasing.
  18. Attend team meetings to provide assistance in resolving issues reviewing progress and ensuring assignment of new tasks.
  19. Actively participate in identifying areas of opportunity and barriers for effective performance
  20. Practice safe work procedures at all times.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience

  • Automotive aerospace or steel/aluminum manufacturing experience an asset.
