Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Medical Surgical Unit
Location: Rochester NY
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Medical Surgical unit. This role involves providing direct patient care in an acute care setting focusing on the treatment and management of medical patients with various conditions. The LPN will collaborate with the healthcare team to monitor patient conditions administer treatments and assist with patient recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care for medical patients including those with COPD exacerbations infections failure to thrive and other medical issues.
- Take independent patient assignments with the support of an RN.
- Perform assessments monitor vital signs and administer medications as prescribed.
- Perform routine clinical procedures including wound care Foley catheter insertion and blood glucose monitoring.
- Administer medications (oral IM SQ NG/G-tube ear/eye drops) and IV therapy.
- Provide telemetry monitoring 12-lead EKGs and manage feeding tubes.
- Communicate any changes in patient status to the RN and MD.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Job Details:
- Shift: 4x12-hour shifts (Day/Night rotation: 7:00 AM 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM 7:00 AM).
- Weekly Hours: 48 hours per week.
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
- Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday if needed.
- Call-Off Policy: The client may cancel up to 3 shifts during the 13-week contract period without incurring charges for canceled hours.
- Charting: Experience with EPIC is required.
- Floating: Will be required to float within the skill set.
Qualifications:
- Active New York Single State LPN license (NY is not a compact state).
- BLS certification required.
- Acute care experience within the last 2 years.
- Must be able to take own patient assignments in a Med-Surg/Tele care setting.
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
- Locals are accepted but must meet the radius rule for LPNs at Client Name.
Clinical Skills Required:
- Vital signs pain assessments intake/output monitoring.
- Wound care basics (simple dressings JP/Hemovac drains).
- Oxygen administration via nasal cannula and feeding tube management.
- Telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG interpretation.
- Foley catheter insertion (male/female) clean catch urine collection.
- Medication administration (oral IM SQ NG/G-tube ear and eye drops).
- IV therapy with pumps and blood glucose monitoring.
- Experience in an MS/Tele care setting is essential.
