Job Description
We seek a Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) to join the team in Blacksburg VA. By advising one or more of the four governing councils and serving as an FSL Chapter Coach this position will work to facilitate the development coordination and administration of departmental programs and services that support current and prospective fraternity and sorority chapter members for a community of 5700 fraternity and sorority members 50 inter/nationally affiliated organizations and four governing councils. Heres what you need to know about the role:
1) Youll join the Fraternity and Sorority Life team. This department supports and engages members of the fraternity and sorority community by promoting lifelong learning empowering personal growth inspiring intellectual development cultivating leadership and encouraging philanthropy and service.
2) Youll report to the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life a Regular twelve-month 100% AP faculty appointment.
3) Youll provide direct leadership and advising to one or more of the four governing councils - the Interfraternity Council (IFC) the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) the Panhellenic Council (PHC) and the United Council of Fraternities and Sororities.
4) Youll serve as a staff coach to several chapters within the Fraternity and Sorority Life community.
5) Youll have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.
6) Youll be offered a base compensation package between $45000- $50000 along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance paid leave retirement tuition assistance VT discounts and so much more!
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Human Development Psychology Sociology Public Health Education or related fields from an accredited institution of higher education with at least one (1) year of related work experience.
Experience working with college students and an understanding of the current landscape and contemporary issues in Fraternity and Sorority life.
Demonstrated collaboration and engagement with individuals from assorted backgrounds and multicultural communities within and across organizational boundaries.
Ability to recognize and protect confidential information and exercise judgment tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations.
Ability to work as a contributing member in a team-oriented environment successfully interacting with internal and external colleagues and partners.
Excellent communication writing presentation facilitation organizational project management and administrative skills.
Experience in programming and/or event management.
Preferred Qualifications
Membership in a mens or womens fraternal organization.
Masters degree conferred by the time of appointment.
Demonstrated experience in a Student Affairs/ student service unit.
Direct advising experience of a fraternity or sorority/ council
Preference given to someone who can demonstrate the ability to advise affinity-based and/or culturally-based organizations.
