Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) in the cluster of Equity and Belonging in the Division of Student Affairs. CAPS is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS). CAPS provides a variety of mental health psycho-educational and outreach services to the university community.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

CAPS invites applications for multiple non-tenure track Faculty Counselor Lecturer positions (12 month with anticipated renewal). Counselors will join a collaborative team of professionals passionate about advancing student success by promoting student wellbeing removing psychological barriers and cultivating the personal strengths of Cal Poly Pomona students. CAPS is committed to provide culturally competent services designed to transform students personal social and academic lives. These generalist positions require excellence in clinical service delivery including brief individual counseling couples and/or group counseling conducting intakes for students seeking services treatment planning and the facilitation of on-campus and external referrals. Counselors provide crisis intervention services in response to concerns which range from adjustment distress to risk factors requiring further assessment and hospitalization. Duties also include consultation and outreach services (i.e. psycho-educational programs) to various constituencies on campus (e.g. student organizations faculty and staff) serving as a resource to university offices in an effort to enhance student wellbeing and providing clinical supervision for unlicensed clinicians.

Some evening and weekend hours are required to provide outreach meet workload demands fulfill departmental responsibilities and provide quality services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a masters degree in Counseling Psychology Clinical Psychology Marriage and Family Therapy Clinical Social Work or related field.
  • A valid license to practice as mental health provider in the State of California (e.g. LMFT LCSW Psychologist) or eligible for licensure in California within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of CA legal and ethical standards and ability to utilize sound ethical judgment during treatment consultation and crisis intervention.
  • Ability to provide psychological services as a generalist (clinical assessment diagnosis brief psychotherapy and crisis intervention) to a diverse college student population presenting with a wide range of presenting concerns.

Experience Required:

  • Work in a university/college counseling center or related mental health setting.
  • Experience providing brief therapy utilizing effective approaches and techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience and competence in addressing the needs of culturally diverse clients.
  • Experience providing group counseling (process or psychoeducational).
  • Experience providing crisis intervention.
  • Experience providing case management and facilitating on and off-campus referrals.
  • Experience in developing and implementing a broad range of outreach services including consultation trainings workshops and presentations.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Strong communication skills including demonstrated ability to make effective oral presentations facilitate an open exchange of ideas and write clear and concise clinical notes documents and reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills ability to collaborate with and respond to multiple constituencies to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions exercise sound clinical judgment multi-task and set priorities.
  • Willingness and availability to work some evenings and weekend hours for campus outreach events or campus emergency/disaster/crisis situations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Due to the needs of our student population and counseling center one or more of the following preferred qualifications are desired:

  • Possession of a doctorate degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology Marriage and Family Therapy Social Work or a related field.
  • Relevant professional experience or specialty in one or more of the following areas: Adjustment acculturation and first-generation student experiences mens mental health eating disorders and body image concerns and substance use disorders and recovery.
  • Ability to utilize and demonstrate professional counseling techniques and strategies to meet the needs of a student body with varied backgrounds cultures gender identities ages sexual orientations and other diverse qualities.
  • Collaborate with campus partners serving first-generation students cultural centers and identity-based student organizations.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills

SALARY

The Student Services Professional-Academic Related I-12-month salary range is $7127 to $12771 per month (12 monthly payments per year). Anticipated hiring range depending on experience and qualification not to exceed $7400 per month.
