We have an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary public health team in a permanent Public Health Officer role in the Health Protection team.

The Public Health Division sits within the Adult Social Care and Health Directorate and works at local regional national and international levels to improve population health and wellbeing.

The Role

The role of the Public Health Officer Health Protection will be to support the delivery of our key Health Protection workstreams including (but not limited to) immunisations & screening programmes; complex TB; oral health (including supervised toothbrushing); extreme weather; emergency planning preparedness and response; and community engagement around key health protection issues.

A key part of Health Protection work is responding to incidents and this role will provide the opportunity to support with the response to complex Health Protection incidents. You will work with the rest of the team to collaborate with organisations such as UK Health Security Agency and NHS Birmingham & Solihull ICB to protect the health of Birmingham residents.

The role reports to one of the Senior Officers in the Health Protection team but will be expected to work with the entire Health Protection team to support with the teams priorities.

This unique and exciting opportunity will you to gain experience across key Health Protection subject areas and will support candidates with professional development opportunities in-line with the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework (PHSKF)and the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) Practitioner Standards.

Skills & Experience

Each candidate must have a degree or other relevant equivalent level qualification and must be prepared to continue with on-going professional development within the role.

The post holder must have experience of project management working with a wide range of stakeholders understanding the relevant policy environment and public health priorities. Post holders should have experience of report writing and using data to inform development of work areas.

The post holder will have excellent skills in communication IT meeting needs of citizens engaging with excluded groups and understanding Public Health priorities to improve health and wellbeing.

The post holder will develop and apply subject matter expertise and technical skills to Health Protection projects and implement practical and rigorous approaches to ensure that work has an impact on health and wellbeing.
