Data Centre Logistics Manager, MEL Cluster

The Data Center Logistics Manager position requires analytical strength attention to detail open communication and the ability to work autonomously. The Logistics Manager partners with Infrastructure teams and a wide array of Amazon stakeholders to manage communication team metrics and team specific deliverables or milestones. The role demands a strong sense of urgency and the ability to make sound judgement. As a strategist and implementer the Logistics Manager ensures streamlined activities within the organization that guarantee success for the business and ceaselessly drives their team to invent and simplify at a local regional and potentially cross-regional scale.
The most critical aspect of being a Logistics Manager is the successful development and coaching of those under them. An effective Logistics Manager develops strong individuals that know how to make the right decisions improve organizational culture and to take responsibility when required. Logistics Managers evangelize Accountability and emphasize the importance of this responsibility in creating a strong culture of accountability throughout the entire organization. Logistics Managers ensure their teams understand the importance of their role their expectations and how their success impacts the bigger picture. Logistics Managers demonstrate good judgment in how and when to escalate without damaging relationships. When confronted with discordant views Logistics Managers are able to find the best path forward and can influence others to follow that path (build consensus). They independently sets or contributes to setting the vision and direction of a designated area while ensuring optimization of the processes standards and functions within that space. They use expertise and high judgment to design the right team structures and mechanisms to meet both short and long-term business goals. Logistics Managers constantly look around corners to proactively mitigate risks before they become roadblocks.
Key job responsibilities
- Leading a team of Logistics specialists who are responsible for day to day Logistics operations.
- Ensuring the Logistics team operate with AWS principles of Safety Security and High Availability.
- Coaching mentoring and development of Logistics team members.
- Participating in cluster wide leadership activities including but not limited to Projects Employee engagement activities Community engagement activities Strategic Planning
- Accountable for Stock Management Reporting and Process Improvements
- Ensure stock levels are optimally maintained
- Maintaining efficient processes that cause minimal disruption to customer workflows
- Accountable for efficient and high quality receiving incoming deliveries of parts for distribution to data centers
- Processing Server Parts and Consumables
- Overseeing outgoing deliveries for transfer of parts and consumables (PPE tools batteries etc.)
- Return Material Authorization (RMA)
- Managing the process of returning failed parts to vendors
- Handling warranty returns
- Data Center Onsite Logistics
- Managing on-hand inventory within each data center needed for break-fix repairs
- Daily Auditing and Cycle Counting
- Ensuring all 7S storage standards are met
- Maintaining the highest level of inventory accuracy
- Deliveries and Collection of Spare Stock
- Transportation of parts between warehouses and data centers or data center to data center
- Coordinating the removal of waste and used equipment from AWS premises
- Engaging with removal or recycling companies
- Procuring packaging materials
- Packaging equipment before final removal from the data center
- Working with local AWS Environmental teams for region-specific requirements
A day in the life
Youll work at all of our data centre sites making sure it the Logistics team and the processes within the team are as productive as can be. Your main focus will be to own and drive a culture of safety security and high availability for our customers. You will ensure quality and manage performance standards with a continuous improvement mindset. Youll oversee improvements within your area and across the cluster and drive their implementation. A typical day is varied including everything from routine team management and daily operational responsibilities to process improvement and wide-scale operational contingency tasks. Youll also be a role model and mentor to employees and stakholders.

- 5 years of supply chain operations and logistics experience
- Valid Drivers license and ability to travel within the Melbourne metro area and surrounding suburbs
- 5 years of people management leading teams of 5 to 20 people.
- Experience conducting sophisticated and creative analysis of complex data and translate the results into actionable deliverables messages and presentations
- Experience with process improvement techniques such as Kaizen Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
- Experience working independently with minimal supervision
- Understanding of data center industry concepts technologies issues and challenges.
