Job Summary
MILLIKIN UNIVERSITY invites applications for a one-year full-time Visiting Professor of Music to serve as Coordinator of Instrumental Jazz Studies.
Primary responsibilities include coordinating all aspects of the instrumental jazz program; directing Jazz Band I or other ensembles as needed; and teaching applied lessons (classical & jazz). Music theory/aural skills commercial arranging improvisation and instrumental methods classes are other potential teaching assignments based on the successful candidates skills and experience. Expectations include engaging in recruitment and retention initiatives; performing as principal in the Millikin Decatur Symphony Orchestra; performing in the Faculty Jazz Ensemble; and involvement with the campus community. Candidates demonstrating commitment to academic advising entrepreneurship and community outreach will receive strong consideration. Position begins August 2026.

Completed doctorate preferred. Documented history of exceptional professional activity in instrumental performance (solo chamber orchestral jazz); evidence of successful teaching in both the applied studio and classroom; and the ability to attract and retain students are essential.
