Job Summary

Must hold or be eligible for a Substitute Teaching Certificate through DESE (36 College credit hours required).Inlieu of education mayconsider high school diploma with relevant experience and must pass Para Praxis test through DESE.

Experience in technology related area preferred.

Purpose

The job of Paraprofessional - Technology is done for the purpose/s of providing support to theinstructional program with specific responsibilities for assisting with building technology; helpingstudents with computer skills; troubleshooting building technology issues; assisting the librarian withclerical functions; assisting students and staff with library resources; assessing the effectiveness ofinstruction; providing written support and/or conveying information regarding instructional materials.

This job reports to Principal

Essential Functions

  • Assists teachers students and administrators for the purpose of identifying resource materials foruse in classroom and/or class assignments.
  • Assists the students in completing projects and assignments for the purpose of teaching using theDistrict Standards.
  • Coordinates with technology department staff for the purpose of ensuring computer hardware andsoftware malfunctions are resolved.
  • Implements lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts andstrategies.
  • Maintains equipment lab areas (e.g. cleaning counter tops replacing ink cartridges etc.) for thepurpose of ensuring equipment and lab areas are in safe proper working condition.
  • Maintains computer hardware and software applications for the purpose of ensuring availability ofinstructional materials.
  • Monitors student activities for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning.
  • Performs general clerical functions (e.g. copying faxing sorting mail laminating filing dataentry resetting passwords creating and processing photo IDs collecting and processing fines etc.)for the purpose of supporting the library program.
  • Provides verbal and written feedback with direct instruction of student performance to teachers andstudents for the purpose of assessing the effectiveness of instruction.
  • Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies for thepurpose of maintaining students personal safety a positive learning environment and complyingwith regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Responds to inquiries of students staff parents for the purpose of providing information and/ordirection as required.
  • Responds to inquiries (e.g. students parents staff teachers etc.) for the purpose of providingassistance and/or direction in the area of computer technology classes with the assistance of thecomputer instructor.
  • Schedules labs for the purpose of directing services in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Troubleshoots computer malfunctions of hardware and/or software applications for the purpose ofdetermining appropriate actions to maintain computer operations.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effectivefunctioning of the work unit.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order tomeet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform thefunctions of the job include: communicating with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds;operating computers and other types of technology; planning and managing projects; preparing andmaintaining accurate records; and utilizing pertinent software applications.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percents and/or ratios;understand written procedures write routine documents and speak clearly; and solve practical problems. ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather collate and/or classify data; and consider avariety of factors when using equipment. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety ofdata; and utilize job-related equipment. Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing informationand/or advising others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobsfunctions. Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands:occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling significant stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawlingand significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting 40% walking and 40% standing.

This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience: Job related experience is desired.

Education: Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.

Equivalency: 60 College Credit Hours.
