The Executive Director of Community Engagement provides strategic leadership for UMass Lowells efforts to build align and elevate community-engaged partnerships between the university and the greater Lowell community by developing institutional infrastructure fostering cross-campus collaboration and strengthening reciprocal partnerships with community-based organizations municipalities and regional stakeholders.
Essential Job Duties:
Community Partnerships and Outreach
Serve as the universitys primary strategic lead and point of entry for community-engaged partnerships. Develop implement and steward a comprehensive partnership framework grounded in equity reciprocity and shared outcomes. Build and sustain strong relationships with community organizations municipal agencies regional leaders startups and small businesses. Identify shared priorities with community partners and translate needs into scalable fundable projects in collaboration with faculty and campus units.
Strategic Leadership and Institutional Alignment
Advise university leadership on community engagement strategy and external partnerships. Lead internal and external assessments to inform institutional priorities related to community engagement internships and partnered projects. Convene and support advisory boards and cross-campus councils to align initiatives with institutional and community-defined goals. Identify and support institutional-level funding opportunities collaborating with faculty research centers Sponsored Programs and community partners on community-engaged grants and proposals.
Community-Engaged Learning Internships and Projects
Provide strategic coordination of community-based internships service-learning and applied projects across colleges and Career Services. Support development of interdisciplinary community-engaged academic projects such as capstones community-based research and student consulting teams. Coordinate with compliance legal risk management and research administration offices to support responsible and timely engagement and partnership agreements. Provide guidance to faculty staff and partners on best practices in partnership development and stewardship.
Data Assessment and Impact Tracking
Develop and oversee systems to track community engagement activities and outcomes including student participation faculty involvement partnership depth and community impact. Produce annual reports and dashboards for university leadership and key stakeholders.
Communication and Visibility
Partner with Marketing and Communications to elevate visibility of community engagement initiatives and impact. Collaborate with colleges and campus units to support events convenings and recognition of community partnerships. Convene faculty students nonprofit leaders municipal agencies and regional stakeholders to strengthen relationships and advance shared initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- Masters degree required
- Minimum 10 years in comm engagement higher education admin or related field
- Strong communication organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to build trust facilitate collaboration and steward complex partnerships across academic areas

This position is full-time benefited and non-unit professional in salary based on range. Minimum: $th quartile: $158830 and midpoint of $179547.
