Job Summary

Position Title: 1.0 FTE Elementary Vocal/General Music Teacher

FLSA: Exempt

Reports to: Building Principal and/or Department Head

Terms of Employment: 184 day work year. Benefits and salary in accordance with the LEA Unit A collective bargaining agreement.

August 31 2026 start date. FY26 salary scale may change based on completed negotiations.

Position Responsibilities:

Lexington Public Schools is seeking an energetic welcoming inclusive and supportive full-time

Elementary General Music Teacher! The position includes teaching elementary general music classes to students in grades K-5 in two of our elementary schools and directing the 5th Grade Chorus.

  • Courses Taught:
    • Teaches K-5 General Music to elementary-aged students across two schools.
  • Professional Duties:
    • Works collaboratively and in partnership with the other Elementary Music teachers.
    • Attends department building and Professional Learning Community meetings.
    • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature that is appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
    • Serves on staff committees as required.
    • Completes all administrative tasks effectively and efficiently.
    • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
    • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
    • Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.
    • Creates and communicates clear objectives for all lessons units and projects in alignment with the Lexington Public Schools Performing Arts Curriculum.
    • Evaluates each pupils musical growth and performance assessing each individuals contribution to the performance of the group.
    • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
    • Works cooperatively with elementary middle school and high school music teachers to build a strong sequential music program throughout the district.
  • Teaching and Classroom Environment:
    • Plans a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.
    • Differentiates instruction as appropriate.
    • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
    • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
    • Teaches healthy lifelong vocal technique to adolescents
    • Strong piano skills preferred.
    • Promotes and expands involvement in the music program.
    • Meets the needs of a wide range of participants from beginners to pre-professional musicians.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms and as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement if applicable.
    • Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils with health attitude and learning needs.
    • Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.
    • All other duties as assigned.
