Job Summary
Are you a compassionate mental health professional ready to redefine student success Mountain Views Supervisory Union (MVSU) is seeking a dedicated School Adjustment Counselor/Mental Health Clinician to join the inaugural team of Options 2 a groundbreaking substantially separate student therapeutic program at Woodstock Union Middle and High School.
The Vision: Options 2 and the MVSU Mission
Options 2 is designed for students who find success elusive in a traditional setting. Our mission is to foster the resilience self-direction and social-emotional competencies students need to navigate the world.
In the Options 2 program experiential learning is centered on a hands-on milieu-based approach with a small cohort of no more than 4-5 students. This model includes:
- Diverse Learning Spaces: Education and therapy are not confined to a traditional classroom. Instead the program integrates the outdoors and the local community as vital learning spaces.
- Real-World Application: We strive to develop academic behavioral and social-emotional skills through real-world application rather than classroom based study.
- Integrated Therapeutic Support: Clinical and therapeutic opportunities are woven directly into both indoor and outdoor programming. As the School Adjustment Counselor you will adapt clinical supports to fit a community-based hands-on setting ensuring that therapeutic growth happens alongside experiential activities.
- A Multidisciplinary Environment: Students engage in this experiential learning while building trusting relationships with a team that includes a Special Educator a Behavior Specialist and a School Counselor ensuring their diverse needs are supported in every environment.
The Work: Impactand Collaboration
As the primary mental health provider within Options 2 you will play a critical role in supporting the emotional social and behavioral well-being of our students. Your work will focus on:
- Direct Therapeutic Support: Providing individual and group counseling rooted in evidence-based frameworks such as CBT DBT and ACT.
- Crisis Management: Responding to and managing student crises by conducting risk assessments and following district protocols.
- Special Education Advocacy: Participating in the development of IEPs providing progress reports and adjusting clinical interventions to meet regulatory standards like IDEA and Section 504.
- Familyand Community Partnership: Maintaining frequent proactive communication with families to share strategies and connect them with vital community resources.
Who You Are
We are looking for a motivated professional who thrives in collaborative high-needs environments.
- Qualified: You hold a degree in School Counseling Social Work or Psychology.
- Licensed:Youpossess (or are eligible for) Vermont state licensure as a School Counselor.
- Knowledgeable: You have a deep understanding of child/adolescent development trauma-informed practices and mental health disorders.
- Experienced (Preferred): You have three years of experience ideally working within a substantially separate student therapeutic program.
- Skilled: You are an exceptional communicator with a high level of cultural competence and the ability to manage a high-needs caseload effectively.
- Innovative and Flexible: You should be ready to get your hands dirty and your feet wet while working with the team immersed in the outdoors.
