The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has an opening for a full-time exempt Youth and Family Programs Coordinator position in the Education Department.

The Museum collects objects and archival materials that illustrate the evolving history and traditions of country music and provides diverse learning opportunities through educational programs publications and exhibitions. The core exhibit follows the story of country music from its folk beginnings through its evolution as a commercial art form. Rotating exhibits examine a broad range of topics from country classics to contemporary and emerging artists in American Currents: State of the Music. The Museum owns Hatch Show Print a letterpress print shop opened in 1879 and it operates Historic RCA Studio B where Dolly Parton Elvis Presley and many others recorded.

Departmental Overview: Charged with the mission of educating varied audiences about country music the Education Department develops programs and resources that illuminate the stories themes and music explored in the Museums galleries. Traditionally serving 120000 people per year through 2000 programs the Education Department supports students of all ages from school groups and families who engage in hands-on learning activities to general Museum guests who experience performance presentations during their visit. A creative and curious team Education staff is composed of traditional and nontraditional educators including classroom teachers visual artists historians museum educators and professional musicians. Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum educators share a passion for country music popular culture and lifelong learning and they regularly collaborate to develop and implement dynamic educational offerings commensurate with one of the most-visited history museums in America.

Job Overview: Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum seeks an energetic creative and highly organized arts and/or music educator to coordinate and support programs for young Museum visitors and family audiences. The Museums youth and family programs team creates hands-on programs and resources that interpret the artifacts artists themes stories and music presented in the galleries to engage young audiences with country music history. Key activities include designing and facilitating art music and dance workshops drop-in craft activities and thematic fall and spring break programs; coordinating and staffing String City: Nashvilles Tradition of Music and Puppetry show a partnership with Nashville Public Library; coordinating and supporting Summer Songwriting Camp; etc. Programs take place in the Taylor Swift Education Center every Saturday and Sunday with additional programming during school breaks and summer months. Reporting to the youth and family programs manager this creative individual also provides support to the community outreach team in addition to program design and facilitation. As needed the youth and family programs coordinator lends their creativity and passion for children to the community outreach team facilitating off-site programs in community spaces as well as to the school programs team providing gallery tours to student groups. Artistic and/or musical skill creative mindset and a can-do attitude are essential in this role.
Specific Job Duties:

  • Provide support to all youth and family programs including coordination of logistics internal details supplies program preparations and post-program assessment and record keeping. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Create and plan programs that connect Museum content for family audiences.
  • Support internal communications data tracking and reporting.
  • Support external communications to contracted teaching artists.
  • Manage supply inventory maintenance and ordering.
  • Assist with and contribute to related areas of the website.
  • Keep classroom and storage spaces neat and orderly.
  • Lead select programs for a family and community audience.
  • Serve as program lead for on-site programming including the project management of Sunday programming.
  • Oversee organizational system for storage spaces in the Taylor Swift Education Center.
  • Manage gallery activities for the Taylor Swift Education Center including printing and ordering.
  • Oversee the maintenance of youth activity stations throughout the Museum galleries and Taylor Swift Education Center.
  • Coordinate scout troop visits including fielding inquiries; coordinating and leading programs; creating activity packs for self-guided visits; overseeing patch inventory; and managing scout areas of the website to ensure information is up to date.
  • Assist with overseeing interns and volunteers assigned to programs.
  • Research exhibition content and themes to create concept activities and resources.
  • Assist school programs with guided tours and programs when needed.
  • Support off-site community outreach programs including advance logistics and day-of program facilitation when needed.
  • Support the education department and visitor engagement in the Taylor Swift Education Center.
Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of one year working in a museum school or similar education or non-profit environment
  • Experience working with and teaching children
  • Interest in or curiosity about country music
  • Knowledge of museum education object-based learning and inquiry-based learning
  • Active visual artist or musician/songwriter
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in art child/family studies education museum studies music or related field
  • Proficiency on a musical instrument
  • Experience designing educational activities and programs for children
  • Experience with managing information in a database
  • Passion for and knowledge of country music
  • Proficiency in Spanish or other language
  • Comfortability traveling across Nashville and Davidson County to support program needs

Conditions of Employment:

  • Weekend work is a requirement. The schedule for this role is Sunday-Thursday 8:30am5:00pm. Hours may include occasional nights weekends and holidays.
