UNB Libraries

UNB Libraries Learning & Engagement Services unit provide over 300 hours per week of frontline service at the Harriet Irving Library (HIL) the IUC Library (IUCL) and the Head Hall Library (HHL). The unit delivers core services to students faculty and staff including reference support circulation access to library spaces and collections and in-person assistance across multiple service points. Normally the first point of contact for library users the unit play a key role in supporting student success through accessible inclusive and reliable services.

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri 36.25 hours per week

Salary Range: $65069 - $88681 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

This position reporting to the Director of Learning and Engagement Services and based on the Fredericton campus requires availability to respond to issues outside of traditional working hours. The Manager is responsible for implementing and advising on library policies and procedures oversight of hiring training scheduling and evaluating staff in consultation with unit leadership team counterpart on the Saint John Campus and UNB Libraries Administration.

  • Plan develop and manage operations across three libraries including policies procedures and workflows.
  • Manage and maintain public operating hours for all libraries.
  • Collect operational statistics and prepare reports related to library services and usage.
  • Liaise with Environment Health and Safety to maintain evacuation maps safety checks firstaid training and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate with Security on extended hours afterhours incidents and interunit operations.
  • Supervise roles that coordinate staffing and scheduling for employees and student staff.
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate job descriptions in collaboration with the Deans Office and People and Culture.
  • Develop new job descriptions aligned with unit priorities and operational needs.
  • Complete performance evaluations probationary reviews and ProgressionThroughtheRange decisions for parttime employees.
  • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes with Libraries Administration.
  • Lead regular staff meetings for Reference and Circulation teams.
  • Coordinate and approve leave to ensure consistent staffing across library locations.
  • Approve payroll for direct reports.
  • Collaborate with systemwide public service units to ensure consistent and equitable services across all library branches.
  • Coordinate library programming outreach instruction sessions and events in collaboration with unit leadership and partners.
  • Liaise with internal departments including Financial Services People and Culture Security and Traffic and ITS.
  • Manage requests for external use of library space including filming in collaboration with the Deans Office.
  • Coordinate with Library Systems to maintain patron records resolve IT issues submit service tickets and support service continuity during system outages.
  • Support the introduction of new technologies for frontline library services.
  • Oversee stacks maintenance and collections projects including shelving shelfreading withdrawals and transfers.
  • Collaborate with Collections and Cataloguing to maintain accurate catalogue records.
  • Participate in internal committees professional networks and ongoing professional development.
  • Provide frontline service desk support as operational needs require.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible related experience in a university or academic library setting.
  • 2 years of relevant supervisory experience.

Additional Strengths

  • Holistic understanding of how library units integrate effectively.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment.
  • Exceptional customer service ethic.
  • Training in HR-related tasks and/or project management would be an asset.
  • Experience with emerging technologies project management change management and conflict resolution would be an asset.
  • First Aid training excellent communications and problem solving would be an asset.
  • Prior experience working in Reference or Circulation units would be an asset.
