Job Summary

ICF islookingfor a multi-faceted onsite library technician to join our team. The library technician will supportthephysicalprocessing ofa large collectionof print materialsfor our National Library of Medicine library technician willbe responsible forusing mixedmethodologyto analyze the collection andfollow established workflows for processing and making the collection discoverable.

The rolerequires the technician to at minimum read titlesauthorsand available metadatainAlmaand compare the information with the physical copies of the collectionin English and other Western European library technician will be executing the work using proper handling and preservation techniques as applicable while completing the physical processing (e.g. adding barcodes preparing for storage etc.). Experience working with MARC21records isrequired and in-depth cataloging experience is a role will report to a library processing manager.

The ideal candidate is a task-oriented problem solver who is self-motivated and able to multi-task while adhering to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

This position will be on site in Bethesda Maryland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • IdentifyingMARC bibliographic records based on the review of a physical item.

  • Searching/matching 19thand 20thcentury publications in Alma to find matching bibliographic records.

  • Completing the physical processing of the collection materials at minimum including adding call numbers and appropriately re-housing fragile items in archival envelopes and/or protective slings etc.

  • Updating existing cataloging records including bibliographic holdings and item records.

  • Flagging potential duplicate items for review; coding duplicates in Alma for review and batch deletion.

  • Followingguidelines for specific materials to assure all records created followNLM policies andappropriate nationaland international standards.

Qualifications:

  • 1 year of experience executing the physical processing of collection materials.

  • 1 year of library and cataloging experience (e.g. use of and familiarity with MARC21any library services platform Cutter Sanborn Tables etc.)

  • Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year of experience working with fragile materialspossibly ina specialcollectionsenvironment.

  • Some familiarity with a variety of European languages.

  • Basic working knowledge of Latin (e.g. able to identify author title publisher on a title page)

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position including but not limited to relevant work experience skills certifications and competencies that align to the specified role geographic location education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$50605.00 - $86028.00
