Position Summary
This Derivative Trader executes energy derivative instruments as they relate to inventory management and storage hedging.Includes but not limited to Crude Gasoline Diesel Natural Gas and related Agricultural products. Serves as a resource to management and physical traders on paper markets given corporate riskprofile.Performs ad hoc analysis for energy related commodities.
KeyResponsibilities
- Develops and implementsAccurate andtimelyexecution of financial energy derivative instruments on multiple exchanges at the direction of internal physical traders and/or the companys Risk function as pertains to corporate hedge maintenance.
- Continuously reviews market conditions andthe short-term supply and sales plans;recommends and implements changes to theplan tooptimizeoverall value to MPC (productyield shifts sales channel shifts import/exportchanges etc.)
- Evaluates and executes discretionary tradeand business development opportunitiesbeyond the core business(storageblending freight deals) based on authority limits granted.
- Initiates and completes negotiations andexecutes or recommends execution of deals(purchase exchange and sale contracts) thatmaximize economic benefits to the company.
- Builds andmaintainsinternal and externalrelationships with counterparties and businesspartners.
- Prepares periodic reports on market activitiesand supply/demand or competitivedevelopments.
- Collaborates with the value chain and variousmembers of the extended business team(Credit Legal Accounting etc.) to stayabreast of trading logistical and financialactivity meet regulatory requirements preparecontracts address information queries anddevelop acquisition/sales strategies to achieveoptimumvalue.
- Participates in the negotiation or developmentof commercial resolutionsimpactingtradingdesk(e.g. disputes claims etc.)
- Analyzes andanticipatesmarket conditions tooptimizeeconomic value added from tradingactivity in collaboration with FVCVCOandacross the value chain.
- Manages basis commodity exposure and/orphysical inventory position to maximize marketstructure value within operational constraintsin collaboration with FVC VCO and across thevalue chain as well as Finance.
- Optimizestransportation and storage assetutilization while managing costs andmaximizing economic benefit in collaborationwith key stakeholders
- Leverage MPCs Priced and Physical Inventoryposition to maximize value across hedgestrategies and market structure in collaborationwith FVCVCOand across the value chain.
Education and Experience
Bachelorsdegree.
Three(3) or more years of experience in Trading or Marketing including profit/loss responsibility for Product Trading Contract Negotiation and Scheduling (rail truckvesseland pipe).
