SUMMARY

Provide career guidance and counseling to students to enable them to make plans and adjustments in solving their educational career and personal problems. Provide assistance in determining occupational objectives suited to the desire interest and needs of the student.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Masters degree; Oklahoma State Department of Education Secondary Counselors Certificate; Minimum of three (3) years secondary teaching experience or equivalent experience in a public school and/or Career Tech environment. Preference may be given for the following: three (3) to five (5) years counseling experience in a public school and/or Career Tech environment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work cooperatively and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders faculty staff and administration.
  • Facilitate the student enrollment process for full time programs.
  • Support student recruitment efforts in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications department including tours shadowing pre-enrollment activities direct mail parent outreach career exploration and ambassador programs.
  • Assist high school counselors with student applications and facilitate the student enrollment process for CV Tech programs and Project Connect.
  • Interpret achievement interest and aptitude assessments to help students identify career goals and pathways.
  • Identify and encourage the enrollment of individuals seeking career and technical education.
  • Maintain and make available career planning information for faculty and students.
  • Maintain career plans for full time program students.
  • Counsel students experiencing attendance academic personal or behavioral challenges.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to prevent student discipline problems.
  • Support counselors and instructors in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure appropriate student placement.
  • Promote and maintain good public relations with home school counselors and/or principals.
  • Assist in conducting counselor meetings with home school counselors and/or principals.
  • Collaborate with state agencies including the State Department of Education and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.
  • Maintain active membership and participation in professional organizations.
  • Collaborate with staff to support efficient school operations.
  • Participate in staff development activities as required by Oklahoma Statute Board Policy and Local Staff Development Plan.
  • Respond to crisis situations and coordinate appropriate referrals.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings serve on school committees and prepare career counseling resource for faculty and staff as needed.
  • Maintain professional competence though participation in the staff development in-service activities and selected professional growth activities.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing the rules and regulations of the Board of Education.
  • Develop individual goals and objectives that are consistent with the philosophy goals and objectives of the school.
  • Participate in the evaluation process with the assigned administrator.
  • Maintain professional growth through participation in professional organizations.
  • Attend the annual Oklahoma Career and Technical Education conference in August and other conferences and workshops as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REPORTING HOURS

Employee is expected to work a minimum of 7.5 hours per scheduled work day. Press of business may require employee to work outside or in addition set work hours to include evening program assistance as needed/directed.



WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The primary work environment is in an office environment that regularly requires employee to sit for extended periods of time. Requires reliable dependable and punctual attendance.
