Position Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Director of Athletic Communications the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Director will promote and market the 22 varsity sport programs. The successful candidate must have proven experience with successfully marketing and promoting Athletics across campus within the local community and nationally through multiple methods. The ultimate candidate must have a commitment to equity and inclusion.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understands and appreciates the mission of Guilford College and is able to relate it to all constituencies.

  • Must be proficient with live game streaming and video production.

  • Must be able to work independently and as the primary point of contact at selected home contests.

  • With the approval of the Director of Athletics works with the Director of Athletic Communications in developing an overall vision for supporting and promoting the Athletics program.

  • Knowledge of and experience with game operations for Department sponsored sports including sport specific software.

  • Meaningful experience with live streams video production media relations social media writing and editing skills as well as development of graphics for social media platforms photography etc.

  • Maintain appropriate sport and coaching records.

  • Services the Colleges athletics department including attendance at home and away competitions as Department NCAA and/or conference requires or deems necessary.

  • Must ensure equity in the quality and scope of coverage for the athletics program.

  • Responsible for the supervision and mentoring of student workers.

  • Must be willing to work long hours weekends and holidays.

  • Maintains and ensures necessary record keeping and documentation.

  • Develop a working relationship with other areas on campus such as Student Affairs Student Government Student Involvement College Marketing College Communications the GC Bookstore etc.

  • Understands and maintains confidentiality as required.

  • Contributes to the overall success of the College and the Department by performing additional duties as determined by the Athletics Director.

SUPERVISION

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications is supervised by the Director of Athletics Communications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 years of professional experience

  • Must have extensive knowledge of video streaming and video production.

  • Must be able to work with a diverse group of people.

  • Must be able to satisfy the athletics event schedule for competitions travel and work on evenings weekends and holidays as necessary.

  • Must be familiar with NCAA governing rules for DIII and the ODAC.

  • Hands on knowledge of Stat Crew Presto Production Truck and websites such as SideArm.

  • Must have working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite particularly Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop.

  • Must be highly organized and able to multi-task.

  • Must be CPR & AED certified.

  • Must have a valid drivers license.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Must successfully pass a background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree.

  • Collegiate professional experience within sports information public relations and/or promotions.

  • Commitment to celebrating and promoting diversity equity and inclusion in its many forms.

  • Experience covering Football.
