About the Organization:
Puentes de Salud works with Latinx immigrant communities across the greater Philadelphia area to advance equity and well-being through high-quality healthcare social and wellness services and educational programming. Our Education Department serves youth ages 318 and their families through out-of-school-time programs that center multilingualism academic support and the exploration of creative and cultural practices. Grounded in community voice and cultural affirmation our work supports young people in developing the skills confidence and pathways needed to thrive in school and beyond.

About the Program:
This summer we are piloting a four-week post-secondary readiness Bootcamp serving 15 rising high school seniors in the Philadelphia area. The program was developed in response to the limited college access and postsecondary advising resources available to immigrant studentsparticularly those who are undocumented and first-generation. Students and families in our community have consistently expressed the need for guidance that reflects their lived experiences and addresses the unique barriers they face navigating higher education in the United States.

The Bootcamp will introduce students to a range of postsecondary pathways including four-year colleges two-year colleges trade schools and technical programs. Participants will engage in career exploration prepare for the college application cycle and receive step-by-step support with the financial aid process. The program also emphasizes professional development life skills and first-generation college knowledge to ensure students are equipped not only to apply but to persist and succeed in the pathway they choose.

Position Description:
We seek two (2) bilingual (Spanish/English) educators who have demonstrated experience working with young people and who are committed to their own learning and growth. The Summer Intern will play a key role in supporting the planning implementation and evaluation of the Bootcamp. Working closely with the Adolescent Education Supervisor and a co-intern the Intern will help refine curriculum engage students and families and contribute to the development of sustainable systems that allow the program to grow in future years. This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate interested in education equity college access youth development and community-based programming. This role will take place in person near Rittenhouse square from late June to late July with additional time for preparation and virtual team meetings on Fridays.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Pre-Program June 8 - 26 Remote
  • Assist with onboarding students and families including orientation materials and communication.
  • Collaborate with staff to finalize the college access curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Co-design professional development and life skills lessons for students.
  • Contribute to building sustainable systems and documentation to support program continuity over the next two years.
  • Assist with developing impact measurement tools and a communication strategy.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings.
During Program June 29 - July 24 In-Person
  • Build strong supportive relationships with students.
  • Co-facilitate daily lessons and activities alongside staff and a co-intern.
  • Help ensure the smooth daily flow of programming and logistics.
  • Participate in daily debriefs to reflect on student engagement and program effectiveness.
  • Chaperone field trips and off-site activities.
Post-Program July 27 - July 31st Remote
  • Lead impact measurement efforts and contribute to the creation of a written impact report.
  • Develop an intern manual and program documentation to support future cohorts and interns.
Qualifications:
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) oral and written skills required native speakers preferred.
  • Experience working with high school-aged students required experience teaching preferred.
  • Group facilitation/classroom management skills required.
  • Experience working with immigrant or Latinx communities preferred but not required
  • Interest in education college access youth development or community-based work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to support effective teamwork and teaching.

Our Mission

The mission of Puentes de Salud is two-fold: First to partner with Philadelphias rapidly growing Latinx immigrant community to build long-term prosperity by addressing immediate education health and social service needs. Second to create a responsible learning environment for future generations of advocates educators and healthcare providers to examine Social Justice and Structural Violence and to explore their impacts on the Social Determinants of Health within a marginalized community.

Puentes de Salud believes that a comprehensive strategy to promote wellness in any community must work towards diminishing the effects of Structural Violence and supporting Social Justice efforts specifically access to healthcare economic opportunity and education. Because most of the underlying causes of inequality are social and structural in nature our actions must be too. For this reason we offer integrated services to support full mental emotional and physical well-being from the individual to the community. Our goal is to provide the social economic and health resources necessary for individual and community empowerment.
