Job Description
The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for producing and managing the Colleges social media content and website content. This position also manages the proofing and approving of email newsletters across the College and produces College-wide digital newsletters and will provide minimal support to the Advancement team as needed (e.g. supporting occasional events etc.). This position is a key communicator and coordinator across multiple teams in the Deans Office and across the Colleges many units. They must have strong editing and writing skills interpersonal skills the ability to move several tasks forward simultaneously and the flexibility creativity and customer service-oriented values to interact with the Colleges many audiences.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Social Media (30%)
Manage the Colleges social media accounts including the content calendar. Serve as the primary creator of social posts and lead strategist for how to effectively reach key audiences.
Collaborate with social media managers across College and UW units to effectively share and amplify content across our channels.
Use data metrics and industry knowledge to make content recommendations to increase social media traffic and engagement.
Email Marketing (30%)
Review and approve digital newsletters produced by the Colleges unit partners and sent through the UWs email marketing platform.
Assist with producing the Colleges newsletters event invites and other email communications.
Together with the Director of Marketing explore best practices for email marketing tactics including personalization audience segmentation A/B testing etc. Analyze email data and use insights to modify campaigns and strategies to enhance performance and engagement.
Web (30%)
Answer basic questions and requests from the customer support inbox.
Proof and approve College website edits.
Assist partner units to ensure consistently strong website content.
Together with the Web Design Specialist conduct training for unit web editors ensure new web features work as they should through testing conduct informal user testing add and remove users from unit sites and help with bugs that dont require code fixes.
Contact units to collaboratively update sites according to best practices.
Format web content.
Post relevant external stories to the College website and ensure the homepage is refreshed with featured stories calendar items and other key elements.
Coordination and Administration (5%)
Manage the Marketing and Communication teams general email inbox routing messages as appropriate.
Manage the College events calendar and work with units across UW to promote events.
Respond to requests for information and develop correspondence as needed.
Assist with orders and purchases.
Help schedule team events.
Other duties as assigned (5%)
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in communications journalism marketing or other related field and at least two years of related work experience. Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement.
Additional Qualifications.
Must have strong writing editing and proofreading skills and experience using Associated Press Style.
Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms in a professional and engaging manner.
