Opportunity


Westcoast is hiring a temporary part-time for 21 hours per week (1 year contract) Child Care Resource & Support Assistant to support the daily program operations in Vancouver. Reporting to the Manager of Programs & Services this in-person role provides front desk library support and responds to inquiries from families early childhood educators and the public on a wide range of topics related to child care.

Scheduled 3-days a week with required Wednesday evenings and Saturdays this position contributes to program delivery in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include participating in the operations of the Westcoast Early Learning Library (WELL) conducting child care referrals and assisting families with Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB) applications when necessary handling professional development inquiries and hosting training events for educators both inperson virtually and in the community.


Job Responsibilities

Customer Service & Front Desk Support

  • Provide consistent highquality customer service.
  • Frontdesk reception including greeting visitors and responding to general inquiries from the public by phone email and website using Microsoft 365 and other applications.
  • Approve online job postings and support general communications.
  • Represent the organization at external events and community engagements.


Early Learning Library Support

  • Carry out library circulation tasks such as checkin/out renewals reservations shelving patron registration delivering ECE student tours and mentoring.
  • Assist patrons in locating developmentally appropriate materials and provide support to those using public computers and other in-house resources.
  • Offer technical and reference support to library users and staff.
  • Use basic computer software like Microsoft 365 and the Sitka library system proficiently.


Family Information & Referrals Support

  • Provide families with support related to child care information and family support including assistance with Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB) applications and computer access.
  • Connect families to relevant community supports such as the Ministry of Education and Child Care (MECC) multicultural and government agencies/services and liaise with MECC government staff on ACCB related implementation and client support.
  • Understand and maintain the CCRR child care referral database and provide child care referrals
    information to families by email phone and in person.
  • Maintain uptodate knowledge of child care services community resources referral processes and child abuse reporting guidelines.


Professional Development & Training Support

  • Be well acquainted with the professional development options and events offered for early years professionals through our website and respond to general inquiries.
  • Provide workshop-hosting support for both virtual and inperson events including checking attendance technical and logistical assistance troubleshooting and problem-solving as required.
  • Monitor registration numbers collate survey feedback maintain appropriate statistics entering data and updating spreadsheets using Excel and related software.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Skills You Bring

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of current child care practice issues trends community resources and related government structures.
  • Understanding of the role of the Child Care Resource & Referral (CCRR) programs in communities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Care Facilities Licensing Regulations and its role in child care and other early childhood development programs.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated effectiveness setting priorities and ability to work in close collaboration as part of a staff team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure independently managing multiple tasks meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and proficiency with productivity software such as Microsoft 365-word processing spreadsheets email internet research including other related applications.
  • Competency in languages in addition to English an asset.

Requirements

  • Current and valid ECE Certificate. I/T and S/N certificate an asset. 3-years of recent related experience min. or a combination of education training and experience.
  • Maintain Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Use of own vehicle required.
