Job Summary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree or higher from a recognized accredited college or university;
  • Valid certification as a special education teacher;
  • Demonstrated successful experience in working with special needs students preferred;
  • Three (3) years of successful experience as a special education teacher preferred;

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 197 days

SALARY:

$67640/IA-3

Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide direct coaching staff development sessions modeling and campus consultation for implementation of the reading/language arts TEKS including STAAR.
  2. Consult with campus staff to interpret the STAAR to analyze reading/writing assessment results and to plan effective instruction to meet individual IEPs.
  3. Assist in the selection and implementation of reading/language arts materials.
  4. Analyze STAAR results and the implications for instruction.
  5. Conference with teachers who are in need of information reassurance and ideas for helping their children with literacy.
  6. Collaborate with general education and special education staff members to ensure materials and staff development initiatives address needs.
  7. Guide and coach new and/or struggling teachers while supporting experienced teachers as they work to implement staff development initiatives.
  8. Observe and provide feedback to teachers regarding instructional practices and strategies in the form of peer coaching.
  9. Developing modified curriculum and/or lessons as it pertains to reading/language arts.
  10. Assist in the development and implementation of Standards Based IEP goals and objectives to support the reading/language arts TEKS.
  11. Consult with campus staff to interpret the TEKS to analyze reading/language arts assessment results and to plan effective instruction based on the needs identified through the data analysis process.
  12. Attend and contribute to campus team planning sessions.
  13. Any other duty as assigned by the special education coordinator assistant director director or assistant superintendent of educational support services.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing stooping bending pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment.
