The Lead Audio-Visual Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation configuration commissioning and support of commercial AV systems. This role leads field technicians ensures quality control and serves as the primary on-site point of contact for project execution. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise leadership skills and a deep understanding of AV systems including control audio video and networked AV solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Leadership
Lead on-site AV installations for commercial projects including corporate education healthcare and government environments
Supervise and mentor AV technicians and subcontractors
Interpret system schematics signal flow diagrams and construction drawings
Coordinate daily tasks schedules and priorities with project managers
System Installation & Integration
Install terminate and test AV cabling (Cat6 fiber coax speaker wire)
Rack build equipment mounting and cable management
Install and configure displays projectors cameras DSPs control systems and networked AV devices
Perform system configuration for platforms such as Q-SYS Designer Crestron Toolbox and Extron Global Configurator
Commissioning & Troubleshooting
Perform system testing commissioning and performance verification
Troubleshoot audio video control and network issues
Ensure systems meet design intent and client expectations
Document system configurations as-builts and test results
Client Interaction
Act as the on-site technical lead and interface with clients contractors and consultants
Provide user training and system demonstrations
Support project closeout and handoff documentation
Standards & Quality Control
Ensure installations meet industry standards such as AVIXA best practices
Maintain adherence to safety standards and site requirements
Verify system performance aligns with project specifications
Required Qualifications
Experience
7 years of experience in commercial AV installation and integration
Proven experience leading AV installation teams on medium to large projects
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of AV systems including:
Audio DSP microphones and sound reinforcement
Video distribution (HDMI HDBaseT AVoIP)
Control systems (Crestron Extron Q-SYS)
Network fundamentals (IP addressing VLANs PoE)
Ability to read and interpret AV drawings and one-line diagrams
Experience with AV-over-IP platforms and networked systems
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Effective communication with clients and internal teams
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on ladders or lifts
Comfortable working in construction environments
Ability to travel to job sites as required
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with unified communications platforms (Zoom Rooms Microsoft Teams Rooms)
Basic understanding of IT infrastructure and switching (e.g. Cisco Netgear AV line)
Familiarity with commissioning tools and test equipment
Work Environment
Combination of construction sites commercial buildings and occasional office/shop work
May require early mornings extended hours or weekend work depending on project schedules
