Description of Work
Historical Interpreter II position at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site in Winnabow NC. The Historical Interpreter II will provide visitor services functions at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site including giving tours greeting visitors living history interpretation operating the sales desk answering phone inquiries maintaining and interpreting artifacts scheduling group tours assisting with planning implementing special events answering correspondence maintaining Visitor Center in a clean and presentable manner completing semi-annual inventories. Some correspondence filing and maintenance of site records are required. The Historical Interpreter II also provides historical information for exhibits publications tours and programming. This position also provides a variety of routine grounds keeping and performs semi-skilled site maintenance duties. The workweek will be Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30am-5:00pm with some work at night required during special events etc.Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conducts tours and programs
Greets and orients visitors and assists with site maintenance
Assists with event planning logistics and promotion
Conducts living history interpretation and historic trades
Provides historical information for exhibits publications tours and programming
Groundskeeping projects such as routine mowing weed eating and trimming.

Recruitment Range: $32287.00 - $40232.00

Position/Physical Requirements
Must be available to work the schedule of Tuesday - Saturday 8:30am 5:00pm with occasional night and weekend work required as needed.
Must have a valid drivers license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
Must be able to do light physical activity level- lifting up to 20lbs use of arms legs exertion of force.
Must be able to climb a ladder.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
AND
three years of experience in giving or developing museum tours;

Section/Unit Description
Brunswick Town is located south of Wilmington NC in Brunswick County. The site covers 120 acres. On this property are the archaeological remains of sixty buildings wells and warehouses of the colonial period the historic walls of St. Philips Anglican Church the earthen works of a Confederate Civil War fortification Fort Anderson a visitor center museum (4000 sq. ft) and a maintenance building (1500 sq. ft). Brunswick Town was the first permanent settlement of the Cape Fear area. It was first settled in 1726 and continued until 1776 when it was captured and burned by British forces in the Revolutionary 1862 this same property became the location of a Confederate fortification of the Civil War Fort Anderson.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
