Job Summary
Position Overview:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and engaging High School Physical Science / Chemistry Teacher for a 10-month academic appointment. This educator will deliver rigorous standards-aligned instruction in both introductory physical science and chemistry courses fostering scientific literacy critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This educator will deliver rigorous standards-aligned instruction in both introductory physical science and chemistry courses fostering scientific literacy critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate creates an inclusive student-centered classroom and emphasizes real-world applications of scientific concepts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver instruction in physical science and chemistry including topics such as atomic structure chemical reactions stoichiometry energy motion forces and properties of matter
- Design and implement laboratory experiments and inquiry-based investigations that promote hands-on learning and scientific reasoning
- Ensure safe handling storage and disposal of chemicals and laboratory materials in accordance with safety regulations
- Develop and use a variety of assessments (formative and summative) to measure student progress and inform instruction
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners including students with special needs and English language learners
- Integrate technology data analysis and real-world applications into lessons
- Maintain accurate records of student performance attendance and lab activities
- Establish and maintain a positive respectful and productive classroom environment
- Communicate regularly with students families and school staff regarding progress and expectations
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and interdisciplinary initiatives
- Participate in faculty meetings professional development and school-related activities
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Science Education Chemistry Physics or a related field (Masters degree preferred)
- Valid state teaching certification/licensure in secondary science (chemistry endorsement preferred or required depending on assignment)
- Strong content knowledge in both physical science and chemistry
- Experience teaching high school science preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage a laboratory classroom safely and effectively
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to equity inclusion and culturally responsive teaching practices
Work Schedule:
- 10-month position aligned with the academic calendar
- Standard school-day hours with additional time for planning grading and school events as needed
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and move throughout the classroom and laboratory for extended periods
- Ability to lift and handle laboratory equipment and materials safely
