The Division of Metabolism Endocrinology and Nutrition has an excellent opportunity for a Registered Nurse 2 Research to join their team. This is an hourly position with a variable shift.
Located in the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) the Registered Nurse 2 Research will perform clinical nursing procedures in accordance with research protocols and evaluate outcomes of patient participation in research studies.
This position will work closely with the CRU Research Coordinator Supervisor in the organization and execution of research performed at the CRU. Working under the general direction of Principal Investigators and the Clinical Research Director the registered Nurse will monitor regulatory aspects of research conduct clinical procedures and collect organize and analyze data obtained from Clinical Research Unit research participants.
JOB DUTIES
Clinical Research Procedures & Patient Care 40%
- Conduct examinations assess body composition accompany human subjects during magnetic resonance imaging or other procedures monitor and administer treatments and/or medication in accordance with research protocol and evaluate outcomes of patient participation in research studies.
- Conduct procedures including IV placement blood draws oral glucose tolerance tests infusions and other assessments as required by study protocols; collect organize and analyze data obtained in medical research setting; assist with complex procedures in conjunction with providers physicians or other personnel.
Study Coordination & Collaboration 20%
- Coordinate with and assist the Research Coordinator Supervisor in the performance of clinical research at the clinical research unit.
- Interact with personnel investigators staff and subjects from a wide variety of backgrounds and across multiple study designs and topics.
- Communicate with study personnel Principal Investigators and other providers to integrate participation in research studies with clinical treatment.
Research Design & Best Practices 15%
- Establish the methodology for carrying out aspects of specific research projects; design and follow best practices for care of subjects with diabetes and related topics on the clinical research unit.
- Apply an advanced knowledge of nursing practices to research on diabetes and related disorders.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance 15%
- Comply with all aspects of IRB sponsored research requirements and Clinical Research Unit policies.
Administrative & Operational Support 10%
- May assist with preparation of quotes or budgets or general support required for the successful operation of an active clinical research unit.
- Perform related duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license certification and/or registration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors Degree in nursing or a relevant field AND Two (2) years of experience at the Registered Nurse 1- Research level.
- Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience and interest in diabetes or related research.
- Skilled in IV placement.
- Experience in conduct and supervision of clinical and translational research studies.
