Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#129150) at the rank of lecturer. This is a one-year temporary appointment. The contract may be renewed annually based on available funding demonstrated need and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The appointment start date is August 1 2026.
The successful candidate will be a cultural anthropologist with four-field training and demonstrated excellence in and a commitment to undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will have a 5/5 teaching load including multiple on-ground and online sections of our undergraduate cultural anthropology general education course and additional new or existing undergraduate courses in their area of expertise. A willingness to work with a diverse student body that includes many first-generation college students along with a demonstrated commitment to quality undergraduate teaching is expected. A masters in anthropology is required by the appointment date.
Other Desirables
Special consideration will be given to applicants with the following:
- an area of expertise that will complement rather than duplicate existing faculty strengths for example geographic methodological or theoretical areas of research.
- a PhD in anthropology.
- expertise in cultural anthropology.
- experience teaching undergraduate anthropology courses.
