Post-Doctoral Fellow (SRI) Evaluative Clinical Sciences Temporary Full-time

A postdoctoral fellowship opportunity is available in health care research with Dr. Barbara Haas. Dr. Haas is a trauma surgeon and intensivist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and holds the De Souza Chair in Trauma Clinical Research. She is an adjunct scientist at ICES and an associate professor of surgery in the University of Torontos Temerty School of Medicine. Dr. Haas will be the primary supervisor and there will be various additional opportunities for collaboration with other clinical researchers.

Dr. Haas research focuses on improving long-term patient outcomes after injury and improving equity in trauma care. Her work has explored trauma care in the elderly aiming to optimize long-term outcomes and improve inter-specialty communication in delivery of care for this complex patient population. Her current focus is on the long-term health impacts of injury within families. She is exploring the impact of parental/caregiver injury on the physical and mental health of the entire family with the goal of developing interventions that will optimize long-term health of all family members.

This post-doctoral position for two years affiliated with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. This fellowship opportunity is intended to provide the candidate with additional experience in research as well as mentorship prior to the commencement of their academic career. The successful candidate will be responsible primarily for conducting and facilitating the research projects and studies. This may include assisting with research protocol development performing data analysis aiding with the preparation and publication of manuscripts and assisting with grant applications as well as study conduct and data collection among other research activities.

Grant-Supported Projects:

• A needs assessment of families affected by severe traumatic injury in a patient.
• Identifying the barriers and enablers of access to primary care among adult survivors of traumatic injury.
• Identification of optimal patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) and feasibility of low-cost approaches to collecting PROMs in trauma survivors.
• Aging in place after severe injury among older adults in Ontario.
• Primary care access on long-term health outcomes after severe traumatic injury.

Essential Qualifications:

• PhD in health care or mental health research or relevant field (e.g. psychology epidemiology etc.).
• Demonstrated interest/prior experience in health care or mental health research.
• Strong and thorough understanding of research design research methodology data analysis and biostatistics.
• Experience working with individuals affected by severe traumatic injury and with using survey and PROM tools.
• Advanced experience with statistical software packages (e.g. SAS SPSS. R).
• Evidence of preparation and publication of manuscripts.
• Excellent oral and written communication interpersonal and organizational skills
• Self-motivated and takes initiative.
• Ability to move between independent and collaborative work as required.
• Interest and willingness to contribute to trainee supervision.
