Special Education Specialist

Description:

Prospect Heights School District 23 has two openings for a full-time Special Education Specialist-Focus: Social/Emotional/Behavioral Learning for the 2026-2027 school year. The Special Education Specialist will act as a coach to the Student Services Department by working with teachers related service providers and classified staff in supporting students in the Student Services Department including those who support specialized self-contained programs. Primary responsibilities include systems-level support for the development and management of autism services interventions for managing maladaptive behaviors data review and specialized curriculum selection and implementation. The Special Education Specialist will work collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services as well as the Director for Student Services to provide leadership to the Student Services Department assist in refining IEP processes and procedures develop and execute a comprehensive professional development plan and implement best practices for behavior intervention specialized teaching learning and curriculum. This is a non-union 195 day position starting at $65435 but taking degree level and experience into consideration. Includes participation in TRS (Teachers Retirement System) and full benefits (benefits information available here).

Requirements:

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with any of the following Endorsements inLearning Behavior Specialist School Social Work School Psychology or Speech/Language Therapy
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the profession including service to low-incidence populations
• Knowledge of ISBE special education rules and regulations
• Experience in managing the IEP process and procedures with a focus on the FBA/BIP process
• Deep knowledge of behavioral characteristics typically associated with Autism Emotional/Behavioral Disorders Intellectual Disabilities Anxiety etc.
• Understanding of research-based interventions and specialized curricula to support learners in specialized programs who struggle to regulate and manage their emotions
• Ability to coach others to apply effective behavior management and instructional techniques
