As a Safety Investigator you will be required to conduct safety investigations such as those related operational events and those investigations deemed necessary in accordance with the Investigation Process outlined in the SMS Manuals and the Group Investigation Standard. Investigations will be used to identify causal types and contributing factors.

Reporting to the Manager Safety Investigations and Group Flight Data your key responsibilities include:

  • Complete factual and technically correct investigation reports
  • Contribute to the organisational reduction of operational events including human error
  • Through the Investigation process analyse relevant trending data and escalate effectively
  • Preparation and distribution of Interview Synopses and Investigation Reports to facilitate containment measures and actions
  • Work closely with other relevant Business Units to maximise learnings
  • Contribute to the Investigation Forums by providing investigation learnings and actual incident example.
  • Work with Qantas Group stakeholders to liaise and share investigative learnings

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the following skills & experience:

  • Experience conducting aviation or technical safety investigations within an operational environment.
  • Formal investigation training with the ability to lead investigations end to end (desirable).
  • Strong understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and human factors principles.
  • Proven ability to produce clear factual and technically sound investigation reports.
  • Sound knowledge of WHS/OH&S requirements in complex operational settings.
  • Diplomalevel qualification in a relevant discipline (preferred).
  • Auditor training or experience (desirable).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across stakeholders.
