This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. This temporary position is with NC Dept of Agriculture & Consumer Services Food & Drug Protection located at 4400 Reedy Creek Road Raleigh NC Wake County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $28.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

The selected candidate for this full-time temporary position will serve in the Extraction Task Force (ETF) within the Organic Chemistry Section. They will perform routine laboratory work predominantly to extract compounds of interest in support of food commodity and investigational testing.

All tasks need to be completed in strict accordance with written standard operating procedures Quality Management System requirements and safety procedures. The employee in this position will work with samples that may contain allergens (e.g. grass hay and nuts).

Tasks include:
* Receiving samples preparing samples for analyses via homogenization
* Performing chemical extractions preparing reagents and solutions
* Monitoring and maintaining laboratory supply inventories
* And other duties as assigned.

Necessary Special Requirements:
The selected candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment respirator fitness for duty/functional capacity evaluation at the departments expense. Employment is contingent upon the ability to pass this evaluation.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Experience performing preparation of reagents or samples.

Knowledge of chemistry methodology and laboratory safety practices.

Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.

Ability to organize work assignments to stay on task.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in one of the chemical biological microbiological environmental or natural resource sciences including related chemistry laboratory coursework from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associates degree in one of the chemical biological microbiological environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum including related chemistry laboratory coursework from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related chemistry laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
