Position Summary
Tulane Universitys Deming Department of Medicine is seeking a hematologist-oncologist to serve as a Clinician Researcher in Solid Tumor Oncology with a Breast Cancer Specialization to join the faculty. This is a full-time position within the Section of Hematology & Medical Oncology. The successful candidate will contribute to our excellence in clinical care research and education. while expanding the clinical research of the section by opening and conducting clinical trials.
This position is ideal for an ABIM-certified (or eligible) medical oncologist with experience in medical oncology and specifically breast cancer treatment. The candidate should have experience and demonstrated interest in clinical trial development translational research and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Care: Provide exceptional outpatient care in solid tumor malignancies focusing on Breast cancers with a minimum of 3.5 days of clinic a week. Participate in consult services and provide care to patients with and without fellows-in training. Participate in quality initiatives and improvement projects. Comply promptly with billing documentation credentialing and other administrative requirements.
- Education & Mentorship: Train and mentor fellows residents and medical/graduate students in clinical trials and medical oncology. Supervise and mentor fellows-in-training in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Provide educational activities- including giving periodic Medical Grand Rounds lectures to faculty fellows residents and students. Participate in quarterly evaluations of fellows-in-training.
- Research & Clinical Trials: Work closely with laboratory scientists to advance translational research. Develop and lead investigator-initiated and collaborative clinical trials supported by the Tulane Cancer Centers Clinical Trials Office. Participate with fellows in research opportunities or self-directed research.
- Institutional Collaboration: Engage with Tulane Cancer Center leadership and the broader university community.
These responsibilities may vary from time to time and will be assigned by the Section Chief of Hematology & Medical Oncology.
Clinical Work Sites:
Primarily: East Jefferson General Hospital - LCMC Health: This academic and community health center is a 420-bed facility located in Metairie LA with both inpatient and outpatient care.
Additional New Orleans area locations where the physician may need to be credentialled include University Medical Center of New Orleans - LCMC Health Touro LCMC Health Lakeside Hospital LCMC Health Lakeview Hospital LCMC Health.
Research & Innovation
- Contribute to the clinical and translational research in breast cancer and other solid tumor cancer care.
- Collaborate with institutional and national partners on clinical trials and grant-funded projects.
- Encourage faculty and fellows to engage in research publications and presentations at national and international conferences.
- Pursue research projects that contribute to the understanding and management of breast cancer and other solid tumor diseases with the goal of publishing these findings.

Qualifications
Required:
- MD DO or foreign equivalent
- Eligible for a Louisiana medical license
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology
Preferred:
- Experience in developing and implementing clinical trials.
- Experience developing a clinic and referral pipeline.
- A record of peer-reviewed publications.
- A record of extramural research funding.
