The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Summer Research Assistant Intern (Temporary) to work at the UHealth campus in Miami Fl.
CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Research Assistant Intern provides support in the performance of research related tasks for the assigned department(s) including data compilation manipulation and presentation. Additionally the Research Assistant Intern leverages knowledge to perform complex duties involved in conducting physical chemical biological and other research laboratory tests experiments and determinations.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Performs literature research.
2. Compiles reference and statistical data into standard formats.
3. Analyzes and presents data and information in written oral or graphical forms.
4. Documents experiment results and draws tentative conclusions.
5. Prepares and conducts literature reviews on proposed topics.
6. Maintains accurate records of research protocols documentation.
7. Participates in the preparation of research papers and abstracts.
8. Coordinates database management.
9. Performs special projects and assignments in a timely fashion.
10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience certification or license
Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required

Department Specifics:
Laboratory & Technical Operations
Experiment Execution: Conduct hands-on research such asmammalian cell cultureimmunostaining flow cytometry or PCR under the supervision of a faculty mentor or PhD student.
Sample Preparation: Manage and prepare biological samples includingprocessing research specimensor prepping samples for imaging and genomic sequencing.
Protocol Management: Follow strictstandard operating procedures (SOPs)and maintain detailed records in a lab notebook to ensure experimental reproducibility.
Data Analysis & Literature Review
Data Management: Collect organize andclean large datasetsusing tools like Excel R or specialized bioinformatics software.
Literature Review: Performcomprehensive searches of scientific journalsto stay current on oncology developments and identify gaps for new projects.
Communication & Professional Growth
Presentation of Findings: Prepare and deliver afinal poster or oral presentationat an end of summer symposium summarizing your project results.
Scientific Writing: Contribute to thedrafting of abstracts manuscripts or grant proposalsalongside senior researchers.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Eligibility Requirements: Enrolled in an associate or bachelors degree program in a STEM related field. Strong interest in PhD MD-PhD or physician scientist MD careers in biomedical sciences.
