Applications are sought for Palliative Care Clinical Research Fellow positions by health professionals with an interest in developing research skills in Palliative Care. Positions are available that would suit medical practitioners with an interest in palliative care research.

The positions are based within the Sacred Heart Palliative Care Service and will be linked with the Cunningham Centre for Palliative Care that is based at the Sacred Heart Centre in Darlinghurst. A comprehensive hospital and community-based palliative care service exists within the St Vincents Hospital Palliative Care Services with a wide array of opportunities for Provisional Fellows to gain experience and access mentorship in clinical and research aspects of Palliative Care.

The St Vincents Hospital Palliative Care Service provides a comprehensive service to patients families and medical practitioners in Eastern Sydney. A teaching hospital palliative care consultative service is provided to St Vincents Public and Private Hospitals through the Sacred Heart Palliative Care Service is also served by a teaching hospital palliative care consultative service. An interdisciplinary Community Palliative Care Team provides services to patients and their General Practitioners in their own homes hostels or nursing homes and this is provided by the Sacred Heart Community Team and the generalists services in Eastern Sydney. The community palliative care teams are backed up by the 13 bed inpatient unit at Sacred Heart Palliative Care Unit.

The successful applicants will therefore work as part of the Centre in research and academic development. This position will suit a medical practitioner who wishes to undertake elective (research) training as part of advanced training in palliative medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine.

The primary role of this training position is to foster academic expertise related to palliative care. The position will involve participating in palliative care research already being undertaken in St Vincents Hosptial Palliative Care services and in research linked with the Cunningham Centre for Palliative collaboration with Cunningham Centre staff the Fellow will be expected to develop a research project that can progress on a longer term addition the Fellow will be expected to contribute to appropriate teaching and some clinical activities. The latter (if appropriate) will include participating in the on call Trainee roster for palliative care occasional Trainee coverage.
