Principal Software Engineer (ServiceNow)

As a Platform Discovery Engineer you will be part of the ServiceNow Platform Engineering team and play a key role in ensuring Westpac has an accurate current and trusted view of its infrastructure and application landscape within ServiceNow. You will be accountable for the quality currency and reliability of Discovery and CMDB data supporting critical incident problem event alert and change processes across the bank. While Discovery outcomes are central to the role you will also contribute to broader platform engineering initiatives provide higherlevel (L3) operational support when required and help shape enterprise Discovery and CMDB capability to ensure longterm platform sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure accurate and current Discovery and CMDB data including CI attributes and upstream/downstream relationships
• Operate maintain and continuously improve automated and scheduled Discovery processes
• Validate analyse and remediate data quality issues to maintain trusted configuration data
• Maintain currency of Discovery patterns plugins and related ServiceNow platform components
• Extend Discovery capability through patterns classifiers business rules scripting and audits
• Partner with Platform Engineering ITSM ITOM and data practices to support CMDB integrity and outcomes
• Act as a trusted advisor to internal customers and own engineeringled initiatives from concept through delivery

• Strong infrastructure and application engineering experience with a clear understanding of what is being discovered and why it matters
• ServiceNow Discovery experience is not required with an expectation to quickly build ServiceNow capability and actively learn the platform
• Willingness to work towards relevant ServiceNow certifications with support from the team
• Strong domain knowledge combined with a problemsolving mindset and ownership of outcomes
• 5+ years experience in infrastructure and application engineering within complex enterprise environments
• Strong understanding of modern and legacy platforms including cloud virtualisation and container technologies
• Decent to advanced JavaScript capability
• Strong analytical and problemsolving skills with the ability to reason about dependencies relationships and impact
• Clear focus on outcomes and the ability to prioritise work effectively
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Willingness to learn and apply ServiceNow Discovery concepts and tooling
• SQL skills considered a bonus
