Position Overview
TheSummer Institute Student Internplays an essential role in supporting the daily operations instructional activities and student engagement efforts of the Summer Institute. This position is ideal for motivated responsible and serviceoriented college students who want to gain hands-on experience in education youth development creative arts technology or program administration.
Interns work closely with program coordinators instructors and residential staff to ensure a smooth enriching and well-organized summer experience for all participants. The ideal candidate demonstrates initiative professionalism and a genuine commitment to helping students succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Program Support
- Assist with daily check-ins attendance tracking and movement of students between classes and activities.
- Support instructors with classroom setup materials preparation and technology needs.
- Help coordinate workshops enrichment sessions and special events.
- Provide logistical support for field trips guest speakers and weekend programming.
Student Engagement
- Serve as a positive approachable presence for students throughout the program.
- Help facilitate small-group activities discussions and team-building exercises.
- Encourage student participation creativity and collaboration.
- Model professionalism respect and community standards at all times.
Administrative & Operational Tasks
- Assist with data entry documentation and program communications.
- Help maintain organized program spaces supply inventories and equipment.
- Support staff with incident reporting scheduling updates and daily briefings.
- Contribute to program evaluation by gathering feedback and completing end-of-session reports.
Residential Support (if applicable)
- Assist residential staff with evening activities curfew rounds and community-building events.
- Help maintain a safe welcoming environment in residence halls.
- Serve as an additional support resource for students living on campus.
Qualifications
Required
- Must be a current college student (undergraduate or graduate).
- Strong communication teamwork and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of students and staff.
- Dependability professionalism and a positive attitude.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including some evenings or weekends.
Preferred
- Experience in tutoring mentoring youth programs or student leadership.
- Interest in education creative arts technology AI or community engagement.
- Familiarity with Talladega College or HBCU culture.
- Basic proficiency with Google Workspace or similar tools.
Work Environment & Expectations
- Interns may serve in residential or non-residential roles depending on program needs.
- Residential interns receive housing and meals during the program.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced student-centered environment.
- High levels of initiative adaptability and professionalism are essential.
