Join a supportive Advanced Practice Team in a role supporting the MGB Cancer Institute and the Cancer Early Detection and Diagnostics Clinic. This practice specializes in the care of patients at risk for cancer or with a suspicion of cancer. This team was formed to provide patients with opportunities around cancer screening to work with emerging screening technologies and to provide access to these technologies in an effort to work towards preventing cancer mortality.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to work in this invigorating and collaborative environment. The early detection APP will provide direct care to outpatients. With a multidisciplinary team approach this provider will promote a collaborative relationship between providers professional nurses and administrative staff to ensure continuity of patient care and related issues as well as to develop expertise in the field of early detection and diagnostics for those at risk of cancer or with a high suspicion of cancer. Within this role the advanced practice provider will be responsible for a panel of patients in collaboration with the early detection team. Other responsibilities include caring for patients throughout their continuum of care and fostering collaboration with other professionals within the hospital and clinics to facilitate patient care.
The early detection APP will work with the team to further develop this center and to further focus on decreasing cancer morbidity and mortality through the work around designing testing and implementing early cancer detection and diagnostic technologies.
Additionally this APP will work with the team to ensure workflows are established diagnostic workups for patients with a suspicion of malignancy are initiated perform cancer risk assessments as well as work with the research teams on projects trials and other research endeavors.
Qualifications:
2 years advanced practice and medical oncology experience is preferred.
Prior oncology RN experience is preferred for NP applicants.
Proficiency with Epic and EMRs preferred.
EPIC In-basket management telemedicine experience preferred.
Familiarity with clinical trials preferred.
Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients medical and/or surgical including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.Does this position require Patient Care Yes
Essential Functions
-Provides direct care counseling and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory inpatient operative and/or procedural setting
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations
-Orders interprets and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic laboratory and physical examination findings
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes procedure notes operative notes and discharge summaries
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
