IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:Department Chair

SCHEDULE DETAILS:Full-time/9monthposition/PSRS

Position Summary

TheInstructoris responsible forthe instruction and management of assigned classes. This positionremainscurrent in their discipline and engages in department and college-wide committees and assignments. TheInstructorwill be assigned afull-load(15 credit hours) of courses each position is allowed to teach two classes for overload per two classes for overloadisrare and requires approval of Dean and Provost.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide quality instruction which is reflective of current discipline standards and isaccurate relevant and engaging using college-approved curriculum and resources.

  • Develop a course syllabus for each class taught using the approved course abstract and syllabus template.

  • Incorporate pedagogical strategies such as active learning authentic and problem-based activities and other successful teaching strategies into classroom instruction.

  • Foster a positive classroom learning environment by presenting information in a way that is inclusive to all learners including the assurance of section 508 accessibility.

  • Present course content in an unbiased and civil manner whiledemonstratingrespect helpfulness and responsiveness toward students. This includes holding a minimum of five office hours per week in a way that is convenienttostudents in both format and modality.

  • Participate inrequirednumber of hours of professional development each year ten of which must focus on fostering teaching improvement.

  • Demonstrate reflective practice including assessment of student learning. This includes ongoing formative assessments as well as official departmental assessment.

  • Activelyparticipatein and represent the department at division meetings events and initiatives.

  • Mentor adjunct instructors in their academic department or program area as needed.

  • Assistin textbook and course materialselection.

  • Participate in curriculum development and work with advisory committees as needed.

  • Provideaccurateandappropriate academicadvising.

  • Exhibitexemplary attendance and punctuality.

  • Comply withcollege policies and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned including attending college functions serving on committees collaborating withpartnerPK-12 schools attending community events andparticipatingin commencement.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning in a related or content field with at least 18 graduate level credit hours in field of instruction.

  • Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate.

  • Fiveyearsexperiencein a PK-12 classroom.

  • Threeyearsexperienceeducating and/or supervising pre-service teachers.

  • Use interactive instructional techniques and culturally responsive teaching practices.

  • Ability to build partnerships and communicate effectively with all constituencies of a diverse community.

  • Works well with others.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Eager to support adult learning and impact future educators.

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Doctorate or advanced degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning infieldof instruction.

  • Experience withblending learning and individualized instruction.

  • Experience with an online Learning Management System (LMS) such as Blackboard or Canvas.

  • Participation in professional organizations related to teachingarea.

  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.

Environment:Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. Requires extended periods of time viewing computermonitoror standing; may require adjustment of schedule to include some evening and/or weekends; mayencounteroccasional exposure to inclement weather during travel.

Physical:Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift carry push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
