About the opportunity
The Claims Practices team provides oversight and support for a range of claims-related functions within Return to Work Victoria including oversight of the claims manual and relevant circulars guidance relating to weekly payments medical and like benefits (other than entitlement decisions) and the implementation of legislative change.
The Senior Policy Officer is expected to take a leading role in the development implementation and evaluation of the claims management framework strategies and services. The role is accountable for developing implementing and evaluating specific aspects of claims management strategy and associated programs as determined from time to time.
The role will manage and co-ordinate the development and implementation of projects and work practices to support policy and program implementation of claims and benefits initiatives.
Key accountabilities
- Provide expert advice and guidance to WorkSafe staff on claims policy and related work practice implementation
- Lead the development implementation and review of agent policies and related work practices for relevant initiatives including undertaking consultation with agents and developing KPIs including making recommending and implementing improvement initiatives as appropriate
- Educate and inform agents and staff by providing structured expert advice on policy and associated work practices at scheme-wide and claims management levels
- Develop and implement effective monitoring frameworks for all initiatives implemented in order to measure effectiveness

About you
You are an experienced policy professional who takes initiative and thrives when working autonomously. You have experience in crafting policy and understand the legal and claims operational environment governing WorkSafe Victoria. You bring a solid background in claims management giving you the insight to spot risks identify gaps and design policy that genuinely works in practice. Further you also possess:
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage and build relationships with senior management agents employer groups unions and internal stakeholders
- Strong facilitation and negotiation skills and the ability to utilize data received from stakeholders as well as analysis and research as a basis for informing decision making across a diverse range of stakeholders
- Preparedness to question existing policies and practices and recommend new ideas
- Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills
Qualifications
- A relevant tertiary qualification is desired
