Job Summary

The Operations Manager Nursing Lab and Clinical Placements directly oversees and leads the daily operations of an assigned portfolio of nursing labs and clinical placements within the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies (i.e. Clinical Placements Labs and Simulations for the School of Nursing). The Operations Manager leads daily operational planning of infrastructure and resources (facilities equipment and employees) which includes managing a team of support staff (e.g. full-time part-time support staff including lab technologists and clinical instructors) and implementing/maintaining systems for ensuring regulatory compliance (e.g. Health and Safety Biological Safety) equipment maintenance scheduling and use of space to meet various programmatic needs. The Operations Manager supports program and curricular activities of the clinical placements and labs through recommending implementing and coordinating continuous quality and cost improvements; developing/implementing policies procedures and practices; and promoting programs and services within Sheridan and the surrounding communities.

What Youll be Doing

  • Manage the daily operations of clinical placements and lab spaces for programs within the School of Nursing;
  • Planning and implementing short and long-term goals and strategies for the operation of clinical placements and labs;
  • Researching trends evaluating services planning and scheduling of labs reviewing and updating standard operation procedures and policies and ensuring health and safety compliance;
  • Compiling and reporting metrics such as trends volume of work operational efficiency process improvement etc.;
  • Optimizing staff and department performance and building professional capacity through effective recruiting selection development professional mentoring/coaching workflow/goal setting and ongoing performance management and evaluation;
  • Writing documentation and business cases for maintenance and capital items and assisting with the determination of fiscal requirements and preparation of budgetary recommendations;
  • Supporting the Associate Dean in review and management of the operating and capital budgets;
  • Leading audit tours and responding to audit comments;
  • Participating and consulting with designate on Health and Safety Committee and ensures compliance of Records and Information Management (RIM) Assets in all formats as well as the safeguarding of personal and confidential information as per Sheridans RIM Policy and Procedure.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of new initiatives and proposals for potential enrolment and student experience strategies;
  • Maintains connections with external partners/community and collaborates with external stakeholders on community initiatives and partnerships;
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Nursing Business Administration Health Management or other related field
  • PhD in Nursing or related field considered an asset
  • 5 years of professional nursing experience in a healthcare setting including 2 years of experience managing and leading a diverse team.(Equivalencies for education/experience to be considered)
  • Registered and in good standing with the with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety principles/legislation and experience administering Occupational Health and Safety policies
  • Solid understanding of principles of occupational hazard identification assessment and control
  • The following will be considered assets: WHMIS/Globally Harmonized System (GHS) training Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training CPR Joint Health and Safety Committee training/certification
