MalaceHR is seeking a Temporary Operating Engineer to provide coverage for an employee on planned medical leave. This role is a short-term assignment (approximately 22.5 months) and is not intended to convert to a full-time position.
The Operating Engineer will be responsible for operating maintaining troubleshooting and repairing facility systems with a strong focus on HVAC and mechanical infrastructure. This individual will work under the guidance of the onsite Chief Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate maintain and repair building systems including:
- HVAC controls chillers and boilers
- Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems
- Fire and life safety systems
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs to ensure optimal equipment performance
- Clean inspect calibrate and replace parts on HVAC and related systems
- Monitor system performance and record readings; make necessary adjustments
- Troubleshoot system issues and implement corrective actions
- Maintain inventory of tools parts and equipment
- Coordinate and monitor work performed by outside contractors
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards policies and procedures
- Maintain a clean safe and organized work environment
- Identify potential hazards and recommend solutions
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 25 years of experience in commercial or industrial facility maintenance
- Hands-on experience with HVAC systems including controls chillers and boilers
- Working knowledge of MEP systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word Excel)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
Preferred Qualifications
- EPA 608 Certification (Type II or Universal preferred but not required)
- Trade school training in HVAC refrigeration or electrical systems
